How to grill sausage on a stovettop?

I agree that a grilled sausage tastes far better than one simmered in
any kind of liquid. But I am not going to build a fire just to heat up
one hot dog. If I try to cook a hot dog on top of the stove, I have to
keep turning it, because its cross section is round, and I have to hold
it down straight because natural casing dogs tend to curl. Both
are annoying compared to simmering.

So what is the hot setup? I would prefer to buy a pan that could cook
a variety of sausages rather than one tailored to hotdogs.

I just stick em in a lightly greased cast iron skillet and keep turning them every minute or so. Cut the dogs in half lengthwise if you want to discourage rolling.

I had a roommate in college who owned a device that cooked hotdogs by
electrocuting them. It could cook six dogs at a time; it was an
elongated tray with spikey electrodes lining each of the long sides. The
dogs were stuck between the electrodes, arching up a bit over the bottom
of the tray. When you turned it on, there would be wonderful zapping and
sizzling noises, and it took very little time to cook. The result tasted
ok, although the skin would not get very brown. I haven't seen one of
those in many years.

I use a dry cast iron skillet and turn. It doesn't take so much time
that I care. Don't you have a grill pan? Use that. My grill pan
covers two burners, so I'd rather just deal with a skillet when
cooking only one or two dogs.

Avoid cutting yourself when slicing vegetables by getting someone else to hold them.

I have this, I really love it for hot dogs, sausage, steaks etc.

Spiral cut the casing and the hot dog won't curl, plus there'll be
more crispy goodness to enjoy. Place in a skillet and shake
occasionally to turn it. Or broil in the oven, or heat in a toaster oven.

I use one of these, but bought it for about $25, not the ridiculous
prices on Amazon right now:

Before buying the Home Pride, I used one of these on a cast iron grill pan:

Rather than turning it manually, I made a cable and connected it to the
battery-powered motor from my outdoor grill rotisserie, so it would turn
continuously.

Where there's a will, there's a way!

How would one of those cast iron bacon presses work for holding it flat so it wouldn't curl?

I really like this idea! Thanks!

That's because they likely produced enough voltage to cook a human
heart in a flash as well.

Shoot - I had one of those years ago and had forgotten all about it. It lost its non-stick in short time. Just another gadget which went bad fast.
