I'm glad you understand my point. I think I would have just crawled into
a corner for a very long time had someone else posted when my son died.
I needed to be the one to do it.

Something will have to happen with some of the stronger narcotics, then.
I can get hydrocodone/acetaminophen prescriptions electronically, but if
you need oxicodone, they still require a hand written prescription. At
least here in my area they do.

Just disregard what this idiot says. As usual, he's so far off he's almost completely wrong. There will be plenty of manual prescriptions for many years to come. He was also wrong about having to go to the pharmacy for the shingles vaccine.

I have no doubt HIS doctor will be electronically distributing prescriptions *that qualify* next year. I also have no doubt HIS doctor made HIM go to the pharmacy for the shingles vaccine because HIS doctor didn't have it on hand.

Sorry to hear about your losses too, Sky. You mentioned maybe a month
ago that you have lost a husband and a child. Glad to hear that you
have dealt with it. Time *does* heal wounds eventually.

Thanks, Gary. Er, just to set the record straight, I've never mentioned
that I'd lost a child, and I cannot image the enormity of that loss!
Alas, it's still very tough for me to deal with the loss of my DH, but
there's nothing I can do about that :/ It is what it is . . . .

My condolences for the loss of your child, Cheryl. I recall reading
you've mentioned it here in RFC. Janet has recently taken more than a
lot of hard punches, and this latest hit takes the cake and has to be
the worst so far, after the loss of her daughter (

As I mentioned in my response to what Gary said in his post, I have not
suffered the loss of a child (knock on wood! - my son is currently on
deployment) - the enormity of which I cannot begin to comprehend The
loss of a spouse is awful enough, as it is.

I have decided if there is a hell, then we are in it now. How else could

I'm the one who lost a child and now, my husband. The same funeral home
that did my daughter's service did my husband's and his grave is right
near hers, so it was doubly hard, if you know what I mean.

My husband was not a well man, but he did the things he enjoyed. He was
watching a NY Yankees baseball game, got up came into the kitchen and
sounded like he was choking. Then he fell forward and hit the floor and
was not breathing. The paramedics wee there in about 10 minutes but it
was too late.

I am so thankful that he did not suffer a long, debilitating illness. We
had a great run of 28 years traveling more places and doing more things
than most people. I'm grateful to have had him for that long.

Someone from the humane society came and took the kittens. A friend
took my dog.

I'm going home Monday.

Thanks for your concern.

It's nothing to do with "will" it all has to do with not having any
other choice but to go on.

I can well imagine Janet. My wife's best friend Mary died about 15 years
ago, dropped dead of a brain aneurysm at the age of 53. About 5 years
after that we drove my mother back to my home down to attend the funeral
of her old friend, also name Mary. The funeral home was just a few
blocks from my wife's late friends home. She hardly knew my mother's
friend but being so close to her friend's home and hearing the same name
was pretty hard on her, and she was sobbing all the way through the
service.

I lost two good friends within a few months when I was 15. For years I
had a hard time whenever I attended funerals because they brought back
all the memories of losing my friends.

It is hard to lose a spouse, but sometimes we can be grateful for a
quick and merciful death. My brother in law went out much the way your
husband did. He was talking to his girlfriend and just dropped dead in
the middle of a sentence. He had been suffering from congestive heart
failure and was diabetic. The sad part was that his son had just
returned from a peacekeeping deployment in Bosnia. He was supposed to
have gone up the night before to see his father but had changed his
plans and was going up by bus in the morning. The police officer who
had called about BiL's death arranged for the Toronto police to go the
bus terminal to intercept my nephew.

I knew that you did, Cheryl. And Sky mentioned the the pain of a loss
of a child a month or two back so I just assumed that she did too. I
just learned yesterday that Janet lost a daughter sometime in the
past.

Kudos to all of you for moving on. I have a real problem with death.
I know it's inevitable but it always comes too soon and is usually not
fair at all. A loving God? yeah, right.

As I mentioned before....I hate getting old. It's definitely nice to
be alive and still healthy, but the longer you live, you only seem to
accumulate more losses of loved ones.

This is why I don't have a 2nd ferret now (they don't last long enough
and I really hate hearing that last gasp then burying them in that now
creepy pet cemetery in the woods).

That's the most intelligent thing written here, George. I'm the same
way. I don't believe all that I'm told but I also don't disbelieve. No
proof either way until we die individually and find out the hard
facts.

I live my life according to just being a nice person. Treat others as
you would like to be treated. Everyone knows that crime of any kind is
wrong. Try to respect other's beliefs and not dictate your own.

Once I die, if there really is a Pearly Gates and judgement day. I'll
proudly walk right to whoever and say, "I did the best I could, and if
that's not good enough, so be it."

You now take care of yourself, Janet. Distractions of a happy kind
will be good for you. Don't go home and stay alone and dwell on this.
Get your dog and little kitties back...love them and take care of
them. Once a day, get out of the house. I did daily grocery stores
trips once a day when I got divorced and lost my best friend. Just
getting out for even a half hour and socializing helps quite a bit.
It really does! Time will heal eventually.

Meanwhile, stress will take down your immune system and you need to
keep that up with your other problems. So....get out at least once per
day. Fill your life with new things now. You might even want to
consider moving to a new place eventually.

As far as your cooking for one....as others have said, cook the same
as you always did for now and freeze the second portion for some day
you just don't feel like cooking.

When my daughter lived here, I cooked every meal. Once she moved out
to go to college, I had some major adjustments to do. I still cook
large but I freeze the leftover and then I do get to eat well even on
"days off" of cooking.

You just take care of yourself now. :-D

I hear you, Janet. Life sucks sometime. Keep the faith...time does
heal but it sure can take a damn long time. I've only had beloved
ferrets die in my arms and even years later I'll get tears in my eyes
just mentioning that. Like right now, dammit.

Hang in there, try to keep your stress down as much as possible. yeah
right, she says. Feel free to email me privately if you ever need a
friendly boost. That's about the only way I can help you if necessary.

Yes, that's the same place I'll reunite with my beloved great
grandfather, my wonderful grandparents and several dogs.

Wish I believed in an afterlife. For you, Janet, I hope there is one,
and I hope you see a few smiling faces to greet you.

Here is a poem we read when we do memorials on cruise ships.

Becca

In Case You Are Looking For Me

In case you are looking for me,
I've sailed back home.
My final voyage, the sails are set,
The winds favor me.

The spray and mist comfort me
And I'm at peace with all.
Water gently laps about the bow,
Rocking, gliding, toward promised shores.

On the nearing horizon I see,
Such sights you would not believe.
I think I see a friendly face,
Someone I used to know.

He is standing there,
Arms reaching out for me.
He is welcoming me home,
To the final port.
All is okay, I know,
I've sailed back home.

Well, there are other choices, like go on without really living.

I've had it twice, 34 years apart, both times
in exactly the same places -- two small patches
on my left forearm. Didn't hurt worse than
a mosquito bite, but I guess I'm lucky in that
regard.

Same here.

On a forum that I frequent, there is a woman who is around my age, perhaps a
few years older. She and her husband have had one problem after the next,
both medical, dental and financial. She posts perhaps weekly about all of
their woes and how things are only getting worse and worse despite efforts
to better themselves. She is also deeply religious and keeps saying that
it's okay though because she knows that God is looking out for her. Makes
me just shake my head.

thanks everyone. I still have to finish my physical therapy sessions,
so that will get me out of the house 3 days a week. Then I can start
back with the gym and yoga.

I will be very busy settling the estate, changing accounts and titles
from joint to single, learning what is to become of the health benefits
I had through his union, etc. There is no time for sitting around,

After I get everything straightened out, I intend to go into my room and
have a three-day cry. :-)
