Default Popcorn Bar

Our wonderful PTO treated teachers to a popcorn bar today for Teacher
Appreciation Week. Toppings included butter, olive oil in a mister,
nacho cheese seasoning, cheddar cheese seasoning, kettle corn seasoning,
garlic salt, cinnamon and sugar, buffalo wing seasoning, Cajun seasoning,
ranch powder, goldfish crackers, pretzels, parmesan, trail mix, honey
roasted peanuts, mini M & M's, mini chocolate and white chocolate chips,
marshmallows, melted chocolate and white chocolate. I'm sure I'm
forgetting some toppings.

I had a mostly salty mix for lunch - layers of popcorn, each spritzed
with olive oil - one layer of cheddar cheese seasoning, one layer of
garlic salt and parmesan, topped with trail mix and honey roasted peanuts.

I had a sweet mix later this afternoon for dessert/snack - popcorn and
pretzels topped with melted chocolate.

The garlic salt and parmesan was my favorite.

It was such a fun treat. I'm very thankful.

What do you like on popcorn?

Salt, but then I'm weird. I actually like the popcorn.

I love popcorn but just plain with salt. I do like a really good caramel
corn but can't remember the last time I had any of that. But any time I put
on any other toppings, I am displeased and then wish I hadn't ruined some
good popcorn.

I like my air popped drizzled with *real* butter and sprinkled with a
little salt. I detest microwave popcorn (it stinks) and it's loaded
with chemicals and I don't care for popcorn popped in vegetable oil. I
don't want anything in my popcorn but *real* butter and salt. I only
buy unsalted butter so I add salt.

I like just plain white popcorn and will sometimes put parmesan cheese
on it. I do love fresh popped kettle corn, too.

This is interesting! So far almost everyone prefers just salt or salt and
butter.

What a terrific idea. I'm gonna do this the next time I have an
outdoor movie night.

When we were kids, we really liked shaking garlic salt on our popcorn.
Now that I'm a grownup, I use a seasoned salt from The Spice House
called Ukranian Village seasoning - flake salt, minced bell peppers,
garlic, onion. Also, Penzey's makes a salt-free seasoning called Mural
of Flavor that is absolutely fantastic on popcorn. Something I've been
meaning to try is a mixture of freshly shredded parmesan and minced
dried jalapenos - you toss it in a pan, then slide it into a hot oven
for a few minutes to melt the cheese. Sounds very good.

I use to drizzle melted butter (and lots of it) on my popcorn, but I'm
now popping it in virgin sunflower oil from a local farmer. The
sunflower oil has a genuinely buttery flavor, so I no longer add
butter to the popped corn, just seasonings.

Anybody who says they do all that is just plain lying.

Besides, there's not a single one that looks appetizing. Some are
downright repulsive.
