I don't get takeout for dinner very often--and answered that way.
(Usually an assortment from a local Syrian deli.)

However, I fairly frequently get takeout for lunch--especially
when we're working outside on home projects over the weekend.

Thrice in last 10 years, I got talked into a Pizza Hut after a fatigue complaint, then was told my pizza is far better.

I've never had Chinese takeout, KFC or any others I can remember. Too cheap and lazy to drive there and back.

I made homemade duck wings for lunch today, and the grocery store where I went today, and cut 7 pounds of chicken wing tips off of wings so I could buy them has 20# boxes of duck wings for $29.95. What an adventure that was. The owners are super nice, and I have a feeling that I might end up working for them in some capacity someday.

Heh. I put once a month but it's not really that. I can go for many months
and not get any at all. Then maybe 2-3 times in a month. Overall perhaps
12 times a year so I just picked that.

Could be someone who eat takeout at work but that wouldn't explain the

What if I eat it in the restaurant?

Takeout joints are not 'restaurants' in my book. It is true that some
restaurants also offer takeout (for certain menu items) - but if you're
gonna sit and eat your food on the premises then you might as well go to a
'real' restaurant i.e. where takeout is an optional extra, not their core
business.

Furthermore, takeout food is no longer 'cheap'. For example, I've paid
more for a pizza from a fairly big takeout chain here than the same
size/same toppings pizza at a local restaurant - and it tasted the same
too. FWIW, the branch of said pizza chain we usually patronize has exactly
two tables outside on the pavement - where one can sit and wait for the
pizza(s) to be ready, but they're usually vacant when I walk by there.

few nights ago. I cheated. I had a bag of Barzi Red Beans & Spice. I
made a pot of rice, cooked the red beans with the spice. I added diced
onion, celery, bell pepper and minced garlic. Sliced andouille sausage.
I baked a skillet of cornbread. Good stuff on a cold day.

My son and his friends were upset with a local pizza place over a
delivery issue. They were at the friend's place which is in the
country. The place offers free delivery "in town". The friend's house is
just outside of the town limits. First everything was fine. Then there
was going to be a charge. Then the decided that it was too far, so they
would not deliver. Okay.. it is about six miles from the shop. There is
one stop light on the way and the road for most of that distance is 80
kph (50 mph). In the adjacent city they would drive that far to get
from one end of the city to the other and it would still be free. They
would also have to deal with all the traffic lights. What is a 8-10
minute drive out here would be a half hour in the city.

They would have been willing to pay a delivery charge but the run around
the got lost the place some customers. Most of the guys who were there
live in town but they were all so ticked off that none of them will go
to or order from the place.

fast food. Takeout. Most of us were able to figure that out. Most
fast food joints have a drive-up window. Or you can park, go inside,
order, get it to go. They may have limited seating, but seating has
very little to do with takeout.

Spicy. Their mild is nothing special. It's their spicy--which isn't very
hot--that's the best fried chicken I know of.

Drove over to get some Popeye's chicken and redbeansandrice.

Wound up getting spicy, with two mild thighs as that's the
only kind they had, so I got to try both. Very good, crispy
coating that wasn't too thick. I'll be back.

When I opened the redbeansandrice I was initially very
disappointed. It looked like plain-ish rice. Turns out the
beans were on the bottom. Very tasty. I made a mess mixing
them up.

Biscuits were good, too. Thanks everyone who gave advice.

They make a nice rotisserie chicken there. And they're big!
Plenty of leftovers. It's hard to turn down, $5 and you have
lunch, then enough for chicken sandwiches or whatever left over.

I think of take out as complete meals, such as they are, but
the term seems to be in the mind of the beholder.

Not Costco, but when we brought Persia here from TN I called Mom about
an hour out. Almost there! She asked me to pick up a rotisserie
chicken. The poor cat had not eaten the entire drive from TN to SC.
And there she was stuck in the back seat in her carrier next to the
wafting scent of (what turned out to be delicious!) rotisserie chicken.
Poor thing! I'm sure she thought it was deliberate. Heh.

I think you're right. Takeout, to me is food ordered and taken out or
delivered from a real restaurant/deli, not a fast food joint or pizza
delivery with no indoor seating, like Pizza Hut and Domino's.
Rotisserie chicken from a grocery store, is in a gray area where I
wouldn't call the entire meal "takeout" unless the rest of it came
fully prepared from the deli section.

Not a fast food outlet although they do sell many already cooked ready
to eat food items one can eat on premises or take out. Costco is a
huge big box store that sells food, housewares, everything a Super
Walmart sells but typically in larger sizes and multipacks.

We order in (delivery) - but it's mostly Thai, not Chinese. Just got
back into Chinese a couple of weeks ago, but we may not continue due
to certain problems my husband had as a result of eating it (like a
gout attack that he shouldn't have had considering what we ordered).
