OT - Final upgrade of my kitchen

After the last couple of years replacing appliances, countertops,
painting... I finally got my floor replaced today. It's really nice!
Vinyl tiles with grout. I got one bathroom and the entrance foyer
floors replaced too. For the inside of the house about all that's left
is replacing the nasty old carpet in the bedrooms. I used the same
company for the floors today that did my hardwood a couple of years ago,
so they gave me a nice discount. I hope the next purchase is an even
better discount.

Here's how it turned out. The kitchen and bathroom weren't hard to keep
the cats out of, but the entrance foyer, forget it. They messed up some
of the grout and I had to keep smoothing it while it dried and it
doesn't look as nice as the kitchen and bathroom, but it doesn't look
bad either.

Yup, I'm done for now. :)

I wish I could have done a whole kitchen makeover, but it wasn't
possible yo do all at once.

How nice, and what a treat to have it all done. Congratulations.

Yeah...looks very good. Vinyl tiles with grout though? That's a new
idea to me.

Again....vinyl tiles with grout? My only concern using vinyl vs
ceramic tiles is that they are soft. I would suspect that the grout
will start crumbling off around the edges over time.

I think sometimes doing a bit at a time works better anyway. :-)

How so? If you have the tiles butting each other, you just mop and
clean. Grout can take some special care and cleaning and even
replacing over time.

I've never heard of grouting vinyl tiles, but I see it is available.
Looks like ceramic that way. .

It looks wonderful, Cheryl! I do hope you enjoy it! I'm sure it's nice
to have it done. I also hope you get a discount when you replace the
old carpet in the bedrooms, when you decide to do so. :)

I asked the installer how often the grout needed replacing and he said
it would last forever. It even feels like walking on ceramic, but has a
little give. I'm happy with it.

My brother was surprised too and he said he wish he knew it was an
option. He replaced some floors himself with the tongue-in-groove type
vinyl tiles and isn't happy with them. He said they tend to come apart
and just don't look right.

The installers lay them the same as ceramic tiles with the adhesive on
the floor and spacers. They aren't going anywhere.

I got the colored grout because white would show stains quicker, but
they make good grout cleaning products. Installer said it should never
need replacing.

My old entrance foyer floor had vinyl tiles that butted up against each
other, and some of them had moved over time. The installers couldn't
install the new floor over the old floor for that one, so I could see
lines of dirt or mold on the subfloor.
