Tossed salad with romaine, spring onions, raw rhubarb, ollalieberries, and a
verjus-honey-mustard dressing

Brown rice salad with peaches, bacon, smoked Gouda, and bacon-balsamic
vinaigrette

Romesco sauce with
- roasted chicken wings
- simmered artichoke

We had ice water infused with herbs from our garden (lemon verbena and mint)

I meant to make zucchini fritters to go with the romesco sauce as well, but
we already had plenty of food and I didn't want to make a bigger mess in the
kitchen.

I have never made romesco sauce, don't think I've even tasted it
before. I've looked at recipes, but there's an ingredient that always
turns me off - Googling a recipe to review... bread! I see Simply
Recipes, Bon Appétit and Gourmet don't use bread - so I might try
making it sometime, if I can find a way I'd want to use it.

It's true that you have to be careful when selecting recipes from the
Internet! (The horrors contained in Chester's site
www.shittyfoodfordesperatevirgins.ca provide a striking example of the need
for caution.)

In the recipe I followed tonight, the bread had been cut thinly and fried in
olive oil, so it provided a nice toasty flavor. (The oil would have gone
into the sauce anyway, so it's not like there was a lot of extra fat added
by that step.)

IMO you never *need* to put bread into romesco, any more than you need to
put it into gazpacho. Feel free to just leave it out of any romesco recipe
which looks good to you except for the bread.
