Dataw Specials... the fish that keeps on giving :)

This was Thursday's lunch special. It was the dinner special Friday.
And hey, it's also the dinner special tonight!

Grilled Halibut
Served with local baby shrimp
and tasso herb butter, white rice
and medley of fresh vegetables
Tapas 13.00 / Entrée 26.00

Someone bought a heck of a lot of halibut! The last restaurant where I
worked, the chef often ran fish "specials" as a way to use up fish that
hadn't sold in a few days. Any guesses what's going on here? And where
the heck is my kaiser roll? ;)

That's a plus! Let's hope they get their fish fresh off the boat...
or maybe we should hope it's frozen since they haven't sold it all by
now.

I'm not sure about Atlantic halibut, but Pacific halibut can be very
large--well over 100 pounds. One fish could spawn a lot of specials.

North Atlantic halibut often tip the scales at well over 500 lbs.

I never knew they grew that large so I looked it up and this article is
an interesting read, even if it was written in 1896.

It is one of the few fish I enjoy eating.
