Is LED technology how laser pointer colors were developed? I bought one
recently that's a soft purple color.

Nope.
LED and LASER are two different things.
A "laser pointer" using LEDs(*) and focusing lenses isn't really a LASER.

(*) Unless those are really high-powered LEDs which you won't find in
customer products (too expensive)
