Default Pati's Mexican Table

I love this show and her food always looks great. But her voice! Drives me
right up the wall. It's so high pitched and sounds almost robotic. I like
it when there are guests on there because at least I get to listen to them
some of the time. Anyone else have issues with her voice?

Haven't heard of it. What channel, what day - what time? PBS?

Can't stand her voice. I always switch channels when she is on. Plus I
never liked south of the border food.

It's on Create. I watch it in the evenings or maybe late nights? Not sure.
I only seem to catch it sporadically.

Have you ever *had* south of the border food? I'd really like to see a
menu from one of these Mexican restaurants you like so much.

Yes -- it drives us crazy as well. We just can't watch the show because
of that.

We're seeing her live on March 19th as guest chef at the National Press
Club restaurant, which should be interesting.

(For someone else: in the US, Cooking Channel, on cable, at various times.)

Okay. Here is the one where we normally eat at.

http://ixtapalynnwood.net/

However, we rarely order from the menu. They usually make food that is
special for us.

This is where we used to eat frequently. They're still good. We just are
rarely in this area and in need of a meal.

http://yucatanrestaurantandbar.com/

We have eaten here occasionally.

http://plazagarcia.com/

We ate here on Christmas Eve.

http://www.allmenus.com/wa/edmonds/5...l-puerto/menu/

This place probably has the best food but it's in an old Taco Bell so the
eating area is very small. They do have an excellent condiment bar.

http://www.taqueriaelantojo.com/

This place has good food too but only a very few tables.

Thanks, her voice didn't bother me. I don't mind the high pitch. I
think the problem is that she's speaking through a heavy accent and
over enunciating words.

Thanks, I'll look - but I pretty much only watch what I stumble upon
at the time. Very little is appt TV for me anymore.

The theme music bothers me more than her voice in that clip. I run into
that in Mexican restaurants. Mexican "Muzak". I'd sure hate to get
stuck in an elevator in Mexico.

You hit the nail on the head. The tone of her voice is a little
annoying, but it is her accent and over enunciating her words that takes
it over the top. Her sister was on the show and I do not recall her
voice being that annoying.

The owner is very good with food issues. He is on a special diet himself.
I won't bother to get into that here. He basically told us... Tell me what
you can eat and I will fix it for you. It never disappoints.

Yes. I noticed that. Her voice reminds me a bit of a robot. It just never
seems to get out of that one range.

NonAmerican food? Asian, German.

There are a few things like fajitas that I enjoy. We have a large
illegal to legal population here so there are many "authentic" non-chain
restaurants in my area.

I don't like tomatoe based dishes whether its chopped tomatoes or salsa,
and don't like most bean dishes.

I do love love love (oh the horrors its not REAL mexican food) the baja
sauce from Taco Bell and like to make homemade tostadas (I buy a package
of shells from Aldi's) with beef and top with the baja sauce-Taco Bell
lets you buy extra-or the guy who does those cookbooks for restaurant
foods has a dead ringer recipe for the baja sauce.

Chances of getting stuck in an elevator in Mexico is very high. I
always take the stairs.

Pati's voice is beyond annoying. The accent sounds extremely exaggerated, if not completely fake.

She sounds like a person that has a voice trained for broadcasting. It seems about right for the format.

Here's a gal that's using a fake voice. I've used that kind of voice for giving speeches. I'm trying to get away from that and use a more natural one. Being forced to use a lowered voice in everyday life as part of a public persona is one tough gig. My guess is that a lot of women will feel that they have to talk this way to be seen as being more credible.

she's ok with me. i don't watch much tv anyways, so it isn't
like it matters, yet if she is on i might watch it a few moments
longer.

Now I'm curious. I'll watch for that show just to hear her voice.

she is very cute to me.

if the voice annoyed me i'd turn off the sound and still watch.

her methods of cooking seem just fine, a bit more foofoo
than i'd do, but that's just because i'm not huge on presentation
i just care that it tastes good and has about the right textures
or colors.

some of the tv chefs are just too whacked for me to bother.
like i'm going to go out and buy a lot of spices i don't already
have and $50 in meat for little medalions of whatever covered
in lawnmower sauce. nope. that's not for me...

p.s. i probably like lawnmower sauce...

she is very cute to me.

if the voice annoyed me i'd turn off the sound and still watch.

her methods of cooking seem just fine, a bit more foofoo
than i'd do, but that's just because i'm not huge on presentation
i just care that it tastes good and has about the right textures
or colors.

some of the tv chefs are just too whacked for me to bother.
like i'm going to go out and buy a lot of spices i don't already
have and $50 in meat for little medalions of whatever covered
in lawnmower sauce. nope. that's not for me...

p.s. i probably like lawnmower sauce...

Being forced to use a lowered voice in everyday life as part of a public persona is one tough gig. My guess is that a lot of women will feel that they have to talk this way to be seen as being more credible.

The most famous fake voice was probably Michael Jackson's. It must have been tough for a 50 year old black guy to have to talk like that.

whatever the current trendy green is put in
a blender/food processor along with whatever
ingredients they can figure out what to add to
it.

i like my greens fairly whole most of the
time. i see no need to make a sauce out of
them.
