I see so many things in the freezer case at the store that just make me laugh. "Boca Burgers" and Morningstar Farms products pretend to be meat. (And yes, I've tried them.) If anyone bothers to read the ingredients on these packaged "vegetarian" or "vegan" food items they'd run screaming towards the first cow they see. Jill |

I used to buy the All American Boca Burgers. They were great tasting and everyone I served them to loved them. But you couldn't pay me to eat them now that I know what is in them. I do on occasion buy the Sunshine burgers. They are made of black beans. Although they are in the shape of a burger patty, I do not think they pretend to be meat. I like the Southwestern kind and I nuke them until slightly crunchy. I do not eat on a bun. Just break pieces off and eat. Daughter prefers the BBQ ones but she likes the soft and eaten with a fork. |

They didn't taste bad. But stop pretending it's a "burger" with an allusion to hamburger. I don't want to eat something containing a bunch of ingredients I can barely pronounce. Jill |

And I believed they were good for me because they contained soy. When I learned of the connection between soy and thyroid problems, I for the most part stopped consuming soy. Yes, there is soybean oil everywhere and soy lecithin in things like vitamins. I worry less about those things. No more roasted soy nuts. No more edamame or miso. I never did like tofu. My current dietician claims that edamame, miso and tofu are safe. It is the soy protein we should avoid. And that is in sooo many processed foods in this country. Even in things where you wouldn't expect it. |

Of course companies change these recipes a lot. I did say they didn't taste bad. That doesn't mean they tasted good, either. I don't like a bunch of processed foods and don't understand why vegans, much less liberal <G> vegetarians would eat this. And I believed they were good for me > because they contained soy. > It's the same thing with so many foods... it's good for you, no wait, it's bad for you. (The *collective* you, not you Julie.) Skipping away from vegan: eggs bad, no wait, they're okay. Bacon, bad. Oh, sorry, now it's okay. I don't let alarmist food reports or trends affect me. I haven't died so far. One thing I won't do is eat Boca Burgers or Morningstar Farms chock-full-of-crap products ever again. One taste was enough. Jill |
