Some passengers have already sued:
http://tinyurl.com/cuaexvq But.... "Passengers may only sue over real physical injuries. That provision is contained in the 10 to 15 pages of conditions, couched in a thicket of legalese, that accompanies each cruise ticket." Who didn't see that coming? nb |

No-one. In 'sue happy' USA it's the norm to sue for anything and everything, isn't it? It's classed as "supplementary income". As everyone is waiting with bated breath for my uninformed opinion, here goes. I've never been on a cruise, but I've been in unexpected dicey situations or have done things I did a hundred times before that turned out very badly once. Guess which things I remember vividly? Say someone comments, "We've been on a cruise blah, blah, blah". Then you tell them your story. You win unless their story was the Andrea Doria or the Costa Concordia. If that happens, just don't bring yours up. There's value to a scary, uncomfortable, memorable experience for the rest of your life. Even your kids may remember mom and pop's tale of woe. leo |

We may have run out of food and water but our staff remained up lifting - you're welcome. We also turned your ten day cruise into 15 glorious days of uncontrolled bobbing in the ocean. We at carnival think you should be thanking US for the unforgettable experience. Not ONLY are we refunding the money you gave us for an expected good time, but we are also giving you a DISCOUNT on another cruise AND 500 dollars!!! Don't spend it in one place good people and we will see you next time when we go for the gold and sink the damn thing. Sincerely yours, Carnival Cruises. |

I wrote Royal Caribbean a very nice letter, which also complimented several of their staff and crew who were super-fabulous. I advised them of the issues we had and, recognizing that they didn't control the port, suggested that they have a dialogue with the local authorities as the port's procedures did affect their guests. They responded to my letter, point by point, thanked me for bringing the situation to their attention and assured me that the items were already on the agenda at departmental meetings. They included two future cruise certificates worth $500 each as an apology for the port situation. Then they followed up with a phone call to see if we had been treated well by the corporate guest relations person who responded to my letter. I did not complain. I did not whine. I just tried to be helpful to other people, unknown to me, who would encounter the same obstacles and problems we had at the port. I figured that someone had to tell them, so I did. I did not expect anything more than a letter acknowledging mine. We took an unplanned cruise last month with those certificates and the goodwill generated by Royal Caribbean for their thank you gesture will keep us loyal to the brand. That's how a responsible cruise line treats its guests. -- Janet Wilder Way-the-heck-south Texas Spelling doesn't count. Cooking does. |

People sign waivers all the time. The validity of those waivers is decided in court. Unless you're in that ******** sewer Australia. There, getting ****ed in the ass is a given. |

I wonder what proportion of the USA readers in this forum have ever sued anybody. I'm guessing it's less than 5%. Captain Peter Swallows tried to lie:
> The only way you can say *I'm* a "shifter" is if you have been listening > to, and believing, the pathetic whinings of my obsessed stalkers..... The only way to meet the definition of being stalked is if you're living in fear. That's a necessary component of the definition. Since you use the term "stalkers" again and again, I take it that you fear every single one of the people you accuse of stalking you. Not quite the rugged SAS hero image you wish you could REALLY project, is it, washout? Regarding your nymshifting, you've done it countless times: PL, Aussie, PL on the laptop, PL Bali, Peter Lucas, Peter Hughes, Susee Calpert (which I thought was particularly hilarious on Facebook), I'm back, I'm back on the laptop, I'm back in Brisbane, I'm back in Tassie, I'm back on a digger's lap... What on earth made you believe you could get away with such a blatant lie? Bob |

Think of it as a usenet equivalent of pest phone calls. We've probably all had a random pest phone call and shrug it off as some wanking inadequate. But that's no indication, of how disruptive and damaging anonymous, persistent, targeted pest calls can be if they go on and on until the target is denied use of their own line or forced to change their number. Killfiles work both ways I'm no expert on stalking but from what I have seen, they don't always do it because they think the person is interesting. Sometimes they do it because of the reaction they get out of the person. Such as frightening them. |

Called me names, absolutely. Made up a bunch of BS? Sure. It's adolescent behaviour and easy enough to remedy. Why do you think filters (killfiles) were created? Jill |

Look up the words "pathological obsession", Jilly. >> >> Then again, I've been bullied by some folks on usenet and never once >> considered nymshifting. Have you received death threats because of online posts made in your name? No. You've been called some names/"bullied", so there is really no need for you to change your online ID. As usual, you really don't know what you're talking about. The very first thing the Computer Crimes Unit of your local State/Federal Police tells you (when you approach them to say that you have been forged) is to change your ID. >> Killfiles work both ways Yes, they do.....and one wonders why the pathologically obsessed morons don't exercise that option? > > I'm no expert on stalking but from what I have seen, they don't always > do it because they think the person is interesting. You're thinking about real life stalkers. *They* do it to (sometimes) create fear. Online stalkers are gutless cowards, hiding behind their computer screens with the main aim of disrupting a persons 'online life' to make themselves feel good about their own worthless, and completely inconsequential, lives. *They* do it out of fear, and jealousy. A *normal* human being would just say *PLONK* and move on with their 'online life'... -- Peter Brisbane Australia Success isn't so difficult. Just bite off more than you can chew, then go do it. |

No, they do it to harass and disrupt.... and it *does* have consequences........ http://www.foxnews.com/us/2010/11/18...ence-dead-sea- scrolls-case/ I firmly believe that anyone and everyone who wants to access the 'net, should have an account with their name on it, completely traceable, and have to put their name to anything they post. If you don't want to do that, and think it is a "violation of your rights", then the solution is easy. Get rid of your computer. -- Peter Brisbane Australia Success isn't so difficult. I point out some 'abnormalities' with the 'Merikan way of life, and give some facts about certain things, and all of a sudden I'm "anti-American"!! ROFLMAO!! FYI, 'Cheryl'...... I'm anti-morons. And further FYI, some of my very good friends are American, and I used to have a 'Green Card'.... but gave it up when I realised that most of America is no better than a 3rd world country and I didn't want to be a part of it. We have a wonderful lifestyle here in Australia, something that a *lot* of you Yanks are jealous of...... does that make you anti-Australian? -- Peter Brisbane Australia Success isn't so difficult. I've seen "froup" here, but I have no idea why people use it. -- Food is an important part of a balanced diet. |
