Anodizing is not a coating, it is an electro-chemical finishing process that essentially builds an extra thick layer of hard aluminum oxide on and into the base aluminum. The thickness of the anodizing develops in both directions i.e. half of the thickness builds into the base metal and half out from it. All aluminum builds up an aluminum oxide layer naturally, anodizing deliberately builds it thicker than naturally occurs. |
