From what I read a shellie bean is a mature green bean.
Adding pinto beans to them is just Libby's version.
Since they are precooked, I would just heat them up the first time
and taste. You'll then know what to do with them.

I had asked about these before. I don't think these are the real deal. I
did some research on this and everything I saw said that the real ones are
the mature seed of the green bean. We used to just heat and eat.

If they were as simple as pintos and green we could just buy two cans and
mix them. And I would but I don't think that's what Shellie/Shelly beans
really are.

That applies to all beans, they all have a pod.

Shelly/shellie beans can be any variety of bean, simply means a
*fresh* [shelled] bean as averse to a dried bean. Most canned beans
are cooked dried beans... but shelly beans are the same beans canned
fresh. All frozen beans are shelly beans.

Not familiar with the Shellbean terminology..but..was raised on fresh pintos and snaps. Seems like the Game plan is use the more mature pods for the bean part..discarding the hulls and use the younger more tender of the bunch broken up as the snaps. Boiled up with a little bacon or smoked pork hocks. Makes a home canned product that is excellent. In fact yall are making me hongry here..lol. Black eyed peas work the same way. Sure as was previously mentioned any bean can be eat like that but peas and pintos seems to be all we tried. Glory makes an canned commercial version of Soul inspired Field Peas with Snaps..which is very good if you ever see it at the store.

Yes. But I don't think there are pinto beans in true Shelly beans. The
ones I remember from my past had small reddish/pink beans in there. For
sure not pintos.

That's the one that I tried but I didn't care for it too much. The
proportions were off.

Yes, I know that. But... I did not think that Shelly/Shellie beans *were*
pinto beans. I have seen conflicting answers on this. We bought Shelly
beans when I was a kid and they were green beans with little pink/red beans
but they were for sure not pintos. They were smaller and had a different
flavor.

That's exactly right. True Shelly Beans are shellouts mixed with the green beans, like Busch's used to sell. True Shelly Beans are NOT pinto beans mixed with green beans. Too bad Busch's quit canning and selling them.
