Why is it Black Friday?

To be a warrior is not a simple matter of wishing to be one.
It is rather and endless struggle
that will go on to the very last moment of our lives.
Nobody is born a warrior,in exactly the same way that
nobody is born an average man.
We have to make ourselves into one or the other.
A warrior must only take care that his spirit is not broken.

The day after American Thanksgiving Day is the first day of the
holiday shopping season, and retailers have good sales, and bring in a
lot of business. It was said that it was the day that retailers were
finally "in the Black" for the first time of the years--sales
exceeding expenses.

I was good today. I didn't leave the house until after 8:30, went to
one store where I shop regularly anyway, bought three items that I
went there to buy, and nothing else, and used a gift card that I had
gotten at a premium two days before.

I made a pumpkin pie and an apple pie for dessert yesterday.

Son, daughter-in-law, 3 yr. old grandson and I each had a
yummy slice of pumpkin pie for breakfast today. The 1 yr. old ate the
full ramekin cup I baked with the excess pumpkin custard that wouldn't
fit into the pie shell.

It was a delightfully sinful feeling to see everyone enjoying
the leftover pie.

Spelling doesn't count. Cooking does.

Just figuring that I can get away with putting on a few pounds of
weight--most of which is just water and glycogen--over TG weekend. I
know how to get it back off, and it was kind of a comfort thing after
the back pain episode. My MIL & FIL took me out for a belated B-day
dinner at the Mexican joint where I overate and had 5 Negra Modelos
(happy hour price, bucket of 5 for $10). You were right, though.
That did look like heavy carb loading compared to my usual fare. By
Monday I'll be plunging into ketogenic to compensate, and well before
the next feast/cheat (Christmas), I'll be lean and mean again.

Black as in profit (as vs. red for losses). Shoppers are out in
droves buying presents (and items for themselves).

No, that's not it.
