I am all for recognizing a person, but not for celebrating birthdays of
people who have died. I had to break it to you, but while it may be the
hundredth anniversary of her birth, she is not here to celebrate. She died.

So we should remember on the day she died? In some cases, that is
problematic since they didn't die of old age, instead dying young of some
disease or being shot. The latter are too often remembered on the day
they died, precisely because people know that long before they know their
birthdays.

I'm happy to see that I'm not the only one who gets ****ed off about
dead people and birthdays. It was the hundredth anniversary of Julia
Child's birth or, less clumsily, her centennial.

BTW, replying to myself, Richard Nixon's is next January. I'm looking
forward to the tape barbecues and not having to shave all week.

We routinely celebrate major anniversaries of the births *and* deaths
of important people. Why should Julia Child not be entitled to that
privilege?

Well, they certainly meant it in a nice way.

Well, since the Smithsonian Institution, among other organizations, is
celebrating
her 100th birthday in a *big* way, I think people in RFC can be forgiven
for mentioning it.
