In April it was the Roar, the mating season of the Red Deer, and I was
in the bush for 10 days. On the first day I fluked up on a deer who fell to 308 round through the shoulder as it started to rain. I gutted it out, and hung the carcass in a tree for a few days, before returning and feild butchering it and carrying every ounce of meat the many kilometers back to my base camp, again in the rain, and up and down several hills/ridges. Several days after that, after more rain and returning once again to base camp, I sliced up some of the backsteaks, and panfried them in olive oil, salt, and garlic over my little gas cooker and served it to myself with with a bottle of apple cider I had made from a neigbours tree the previous year and a packet of two-minute-noodles, as I sat under my shelter and surveyed the valley before me, before returing to my sleeping bag for the night. Magnificient! |
