Apparently it's okay but should be used in less than 10 days. Keeping
covered is best to keep odors from being absorbed.

Maybe it's for bagels. I buy bagels from the bakery and freeze them
when as I get home, taking them out as I use them. It could work for
English muffins too.

That's what I was thinking. I can put sliced bread right from the freezer
into the toaster with no problem. A thicker bread like bagels should
probably sit out for a short while before toasting.

A toaster defrost option is nothing that I would pay extra for.

My mother always left a butter dish on the counter. There were six of us
so it didn't last a long time, but it got pretty soft in hot summer days
and we never had any problems. My wife and I leave butter out and a
slice of butter might last as long as a week. No problem.

Heh! I don't call a $50 toaster cheap - thanks. However, I see from
this thread that I have features I've never dreamed about to look for
if my current toaster ever bites the dust.

I have this toaster, been operating perfectly for some 15 years now,
best toaster I've ever seen anywhere. The only reason KA stopped
producing this toaster is because it's the last toaster you'll ever
buy, they'd soon be out of the toaster business:
