Finally saw some RFC pics. OK, no offense but some of us are a bit long in
the tooth. I'm old, mostly bald and have a gray beard so I can't criticize.
I am proposing a RFC picture site from younger years.

http://tinypic.com/r/t7lbgx/6

This is me in 1966 with my mother and sisters at the Imperial Palace in
Japan. I ceased to be cute shortly afterwards. Even at that young an age I
was interested in cooking and I loved sushi.

You?

That's going back a bit too far.

I second the proposal for a 'nostalga' pics site. But I think they
should be pictures of us that were taken when we think we were the
"hottest". ;-)

I beg your pardon! If that was you in '66 you're about the same age as
me and I don't call myself old.

Some of us age better than others, like wine.

Can't really see you in that picture, you're too far away, and you
have a kid covering much of you.

I was hot for about 5minutes in 1977 but I don't have any pictures from
then. I'm told I was a Gerber baby though if you want my baby picture
:-)

I am a new great great aunt. The baby is 1/4 irish, 1/4 black, 1/2
german if I did my math correctly. Baby looks half chinese and half
romanian gypsy. Genetics are fascinating.

It was abandage. Hiking up and down hills in Kyoto carrying a 1 year old is
pretty hard on the feet.

I think the people who think like that should join facebook so they
can change their profile picture to whatever they want it to be - baby
picture, hottie picture... whatever. If you think you were a hottie
in the "way back", I will guarantee you that Goomba's
ordinary/everyday picture of her as a 20 something will blow you out
of the water.

It reminds me of my wife - she was in a military family although I don't
know how nice it was. She had 5 brothers and an older sister. She told
me tonight that her big brother taught her not to fart in the playground
around other kids. He took her to the side and explained it to her. I am
glad to say that to this day, she still remembers not to let one off in
public.

Add me. Rather than a website for older photos, we could all just add a
link to tinypic or whatever to show some old ones on our posts. As Steve
mentioned, it's nice to put a face (even an old one) to someone you
correspond to.

Is that RFC website even maintained still? I've looked at the pics there
and have seen some of you but not all. I've only seen Andy's butt though.

[Chatty]Cathy maintains the site when she has the time. Apparently there
hasn't been a lot of interest lately and Cathy has been busy. Not everyone
wants to post a photo; that's fine. I was a cute kid but I don't see any
need to show people what I looked like in 1966.

One of the next times I post, I'll post (via Tinypic links) a pic of me in
the early 50's, one from about 1989, and one from 3 years ago (my most
recent pic).

Her posted picture is the best now!

As for being a hottie, my wife thinks I still am. Does that mean I
have to post a new picture every day?

Thing is, IIRC, we started the "RFC Mugshots" page just before FB <gag>
became a 'must-have-in-my-life' sensation (for many people) - who
(mostly) seem to have the attitude "Who needs to send in a photo for
some moldy old cooking newsgroup website when I can change my FB photo
10 times a day, if I so wish?"

Ah well, sobeit.

[And no, I'm not going to change it to one of those 'upload your own
Mugshot' pages either - and Steve W, Damsel - and a few of the other
regulars might just remember why. <snicker>]

Just so you know *I* don't do the FB thing and I am sure I am not alone!

For some of us that is our good side.

Sure then we can put them all together and flip through them to make a movie
and watch you age - kinda like the Portrait of Dorian Pawlowski.

I was saying that in a tongue in cheek way.

What is the facebook address for the RFC group anyway? I looked once
but never was able to find it.

Such a shame. Please give my best wishes to them!

Heh - do you think people 'behave' themselves better on FB than on
Usenet and 'stay On-topic'? And if yes, why would that be? Is it because
they don't feel quite as 'anonymous' on FB and are askeered of being
sued or somesuch? And if somebody <gasp> starts 'behaving badly' on FB
(and please don't tell me that that never happens, I've seen enough
hoo-ha in the press about it), one can 'unfriend' them... don't see much
difference in doing that than using a killfile on Usenet. <shrug>

Maybe because the group has moderators who can throw troublemakers out
of the group. Individual posts aren't approved or censored, but bad
behavior is dealt with swiftly. Happened the other day... a guy got the
boot, tried to rejoin under a phony name, got caught and got the boot again.

"Unfriend" is individual thing. Being a member of the group is another.
Unlike usenet, the FaceBook group is a place where bad behavior has
consequences.

Moderated groups aren't for everyone, but you would be surprised at how
well people can get along when they know that BS won't be tolerated.
