Oreo Cookies, 100 years old today.

I stopped at the grocery store on the way to work and bought several
packages, all the flavors, to take to the office and shop today.

Not too many food products that make it 100 years and are just as
popular as ever.

It's one bought cookie I really like.

I do too. Never buy them by the box anymore, but I do get one of
those small packages from a vending machine once every few years.

These I bought today are the first time I've had an Oreo in several
years. I try not to eat junk food anymore, but you know what?....it
tasted like I remembered them tasting and it was actually pretty
good !!

Hey, I'm not saying I couldn't eat an entire grocery store sized box
and still have a good portion of the week left!

Oreos are not one of my favorites, they're okay but I wouldn't buy
them, I don't think I've ever bought Oreos. I don't care for any
sandwich cookies. I like ginger snaps and I sometimes buy those
cheapo oatmeal cookies with lightly glazed tops... I'm not much of a
cookie monster.

For sure the co. should be proud of that, as I wonder how many others
can boast the same? Not sure how long Fig Newton's have been around, but
I like them better, as aren't quite as sweet. Neither one have changed
their recipe over the years, and still tastes the same as always.

I mainly buy Oreos to make desserts with. One of our family favorites is
the Oreo Cookies & Cream Cake, and is often requested for birthdays.

I do like dunking the ones left over from the package, in coffee, but a
couple goes a long way.

This was my favorite when I was a kid - believe it or not, as
nostalgic as I get about it I've never made it myself.

The 50s and 60s was a strange time in American cooking. A lot of recipes
called for the assembly of brand name foods. Most of the recipes were a
way to sell more product.

Whipped cream gives me a tummy ache so I wouldn't make it but I'm pretty
sure that cream and sugar is a good deal. I don't understand how Oreos
embedded in whipped cream can stand on it's own. Wouldn't it fall apart
when you try to cut it? Thanks.

I don't know what happens to Oreos, but I know what happens to those
chocolate wafers. You let the assembled "cake" sit for a few hours or
overnight in the refrigerator and the cookies get really soft, then
they cut and eat just like chocolate cake.

This dessert has been popular for many years, and I think the recipe is
still on the chocolate wafer box. Actually it is quite good, but I don't
recall ever making it myself either, but is easy to put together, that's
for sure.

Ah... please excuse me, I thought there was Oreos in there. Can people
even get chocolate wafers anymore? I don't recall ever seeing something
like that.

I grew up on Hydrox. I've eaten a few Oreo's in life, but very few.
I'd much rather have a good butter cookie or a chocolate chip.

Yes! They exist and you can still find them in the grocery store.
They often hide, but they are there.

Jeepers, it even has a picture on the package! I'll pick up one of those

Those wafers make really good chocolate crust too. That's what I use
them for. Don't be discouraged if you don't see them at first, just
ask someone to help you. :)

And another thing.... Occasionally I'll buy a pack of hostess twinkies.
Still pretty good and they work well with strawberry shortcake too.
