Default Lin's Thanksgiving Feast

For four diners, Lin made:

Roasted turkey
Dressing (mixture of cornbread and cubed white bread)
Mashed potatoes
Gravy
Homemade cranberry sauce
Steamed Brussels sprouts with butter
Sweet potatoes with marshmallows
Bourbon-bacon pecan pie (with whipped cream)
Pumpkin pie (also with whipped cream)

I brought leftovers to work with me tonight. I haven't tried the pumpkin pie
yet, but that pecan pie is incredible.

It all sounds scrumptious except for those bitter little cabbages.

Now whose being bombastic, Bryan? "Cruciferous"? I shall call you
Bryan le Bombatiste! (Or should that be "la"?)

I assume you mean Brussels sprouts *and* green beans. I love green
beans, but Brussels sprouts have a nasty flavor in them I cannot
abide.

No, I meant all of the Brassica oleracea cultivars:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brassica_oleracea

> I love green beans,

They are one my staple foods these days. I got on the scale this
morning
and it read two tenths of a pound less than yesterday morning.

You went from the ridiculous to the sublime!

If you mean cabbage just *say* cabbage! No need to obfuscate via
bombasticness, just because you like Wikipedia!

You ought to visit Long Acres Farms, the Market In The Loop's only
permanent vendor. They're green beans are really GOOD lately! I made
myself some yesterday and they were YUM!!

Agreed. There is something bitterish in them that I swear some others
cannot taste, but I cannot avoid tasting. Linda like that chemical
they used to pass out filter paper strips of in biology class that
statistically, genetically a certain percentage of people can taste
and the others cannot taste. I swear there are chemicals like that in
some vegetables too! Like Brussels sprouts! To me they are nasty.
Others say they love them. Great, they can have all of MINE! ;-)

An absolute classic. Glad to hear of one more cook wh doesn't get cute
with Thanksgiving dinner.

I'm like that with winter squash. I can't stand it.

I have to say pecan pie with BACON in it just does not sound very
appetizing, and especially with bourbon in it too...really?! I always
say a person shouldn't knock something until they've at least tried it,
but if I knew the ingredients...this I'd pass on. ) It's hard to beat
just the regular pecan pie...if it's made right. I never got one made
for Thksgv., but for sure I will for Christmas, even if I'm the only one
that eats it.

Most of the rest of the menu sounded good, except brussel sprouts are my
least favorite vegetable and I am not a fan of the sweet
potato-marshmallow"thing". I love sweet potatoes fixed almost all other
ways, but...just not the ones from a can. They have to be fresh, or not
at all. Hubby says I'm "picky", and I don't think I am, but...maybe he's
right? LOL

I don't care for them either, and have tried several different recipes
for them, but nothing covers the bitter bite to them, and yet I love
cabbage. My youngest son, who never cared for veggies growing up, loved
B. sprouts, so I would cook them for him, and fix another that I liked!

Ohhhhh, I LOVE winter squash, and so does my hubby, thank goodness! We
cut it into chunks and fill a 9 x 13 inch pan with it and sprinkle with
salt & pepper, sprinkle some brown sugar over it and dot it with butter.
Bake at 350º for 1 hour...covered for half the time. We eat the entire
pan!

Bacon is a seasoning ingredient for people who can't cook and have
TIAD... all anyone will taste is bacon... those are the people who
think a dinner of beer nuts and Slim Jims are ambrosia.

Yahoo! She hit the "just right" button on the bacon in that pie?
Tell her to post the recipe... she has 3 choices about "where" now
that rfc has a web based forum too.

I'm still waiting to hear how the web-based forum differs functionally from
Foodbanter. Seems like it provides exactly the same service to its
subscribers.

I haven't looked at Foodbanter so I have no idea how it functions
other than stealing content from usenet. The web based rfc forum
seems to be self-contained. It does not steal content and does not
propagate any posts to usenet. It does not display any ads either.
You can tell as much or as little about yourself as you wish in your
profile, all that's required is a password and email (but you can
choose not to display it). I decided to fill in the blank for
location since I like to see what part of the world other people are
posting from. I also changed the date format to month/day/year and
time.

That's what I used to hear from liver lovers. You loathe brussel sprouts
and I loathe liver. We should meet sometime and attempt to consume a
liver and brussel sprouts casserole with a "Who gags last" prize.
