Default OT hacking spam, do they ever stop?

Tonight's spam is just funny. Maybe it's a hacker trying to get some
information. Who knows? Anyhow. I've received an email from the State of
New York's motor vehicle something warning about my traffic violation.
We haven't been in the State of New York since 1958 and I didn't attempt
to drive there. Do you think NY is so far behind in their paperwork that
they've just now gotten around to me? Polly

I couldn't take another hit on my driver license, so I used your info.
Sorry about that. But thanks!

Glad to be of help. If the State of New York can afford my prescriptions,
I'll waive extradition. Alabama can't. Polly

Cute! I have a British friend here in Umbria who has received about 12 of
these in recent months. She has never even been to the USA.

That wouldn't surprise me-- and we just noticed that we're coming up
$350million short in the budget-- so your $1million fine will go a
long way towards helping us out-- Thanks.

Did you check your license photo on this site? Might not be you.

When a spammer tries to get personal information out of you the term for
that is "phishing". When a spammer tries to get to to answer thinking
it's an official communication the term for that is "spear phishing".
That was definitely a "spear phishing" spam.

I get them all of the time claiming to be from some bank or credit union
or insurance company or social networking site or whatever. Lately I've
gotten some claiming to be the FBI wanting to ask me questions about
people I knew in the past. But for any of them if I look at the content
of the URLs they point to suspicious names. Maybe it will load spyware.
Maybe it's an attempt to reveal personal data. One way or the other
it's spam.

Phishing/spear phishing... it's all phishing.
