Because it isn't bread although we call it that. It's cake/muffin whatever
and hasn't got the elasticy and gluten of bread. That means it will
probably turn to mush when cooked with liquids.
I personally would serve the teabread with cheese. That would fight the
sweet like gingersnaps with cheese.

It's just too sweet to enjoy that way. I may try cheese with banana
bread someday. What "teabread" do you use?
