Default Ping: Blake re-pepper vodka

Back when people used to talk about making pepper vodka at home (here
on rfc), I tried making it by splitting one in half, putting it in one
cup of vodka and letting it steep overnight. It was HOT and best
used mixed with something else.

I love cooking with wine.
Sometimes I even put it in the food.

I bet it makes a good bloody Mary. I'd like a cold, peppery bloody
Mary right now!

Have you ever had vodka in a Russian restaurant served from a bottle
embedded in a block of ice? It's meant to be downed in one gulp and
that's how I drink pepper vodka, except that I keep the bottle in the
freezer.

that thought crossed my mind as well, but i go to some trouble now to make
a dill-infused vodka to use in bloody marys, adding some hot stuff at time
of consumption. (try ground chipotle if you haven't already.) but i guess
i could switch up and use the pepper vodka with a little dill pickle juice
if i didn't like the vodka the way james suggests, as shots from the
freezer. i reckon it would get used in any case.

Fresh, it was probably a jalapeno (because that's what I buy for
generic use)... but I must have gotten a particularly hot one that
time.

I thought the "pepper vodka" I have seen in stores had peppercorns not
chili peppers?

No idea. Fresh jalapeno was bandied about here on rfc, so I tried it.
