I searched the internet and found this, with blackberry, raspberry, and other berry wines. http://www.beachavenwinery.com/sweet%20wines.htm It's somewhat difficult to call these wines. I'd sure try what you're going to use first. All of these are fortified wines, or with added alcohol. I don't think we have any grapes in CA that have a high enough sugar content to ferment to 11-12% alcohol and still leave enough residual sugar to be called a sweet wine. You might see if you can find Charles Krug cream sherry, which really isn't red. The other would be a non vintage California port. Those are nice, but assertive. I'm not familiar with the "black muscat" sweet wine. Good Luck, Kent Kent |

Zin is, by nature, a sweet grape, so huge wines of 14.5-16.5 abv are not uncommon. Makes for a great dessert wine when fermented for that purpose. Usually pretty pricey for small bottle. Probably hard to find outside CA, as that state is ground zero for zin growers and bleary-eyed zin zealots. nb |

Late Harvest Zin is like a red ice wine, IMO. It's a beautiful and highly satisfying dessert wine... not cheap, but not expensive. Expect to pay high $twenties to low $thirties for a bottle that looks like a split. Maybe a little more because my last experience was a few years ago. -- I love cooking with wine. does it come in red though? that is the key, while price is a factor, sweet
and red are the more important, thanks, Lee "notbob" > wrote in message ... > On 2011-04-07, Storrmmee > wrote: >> i am looking for a red dessert wine, ice wine and moscato are my favorite >> dessert in the white and one called camolot honey mead, it needs to be >> as >> sweet as possible sparkling is fine but not required, > > Not sure where you at, Storm, but a big fave in CA is dessert > zinfandels. thanks,
usually alone, a df has been told by her qwak that a glass of wine each evening is acceptable and probably reccommended in her case, but he prefefrs her to have red over white, and she prefers sweet so i thought if i could come up with something that tasted nice i could get her something to get started it would be a nice gift... i will of course have to test drive anything i give her, lol, Lee "ImStillMags" > wrote in message ... Many California vineyards make varietal dessert wines, such as cab franc. Savannah Chanel is one that immediately comes to mind. I have never seen a red trockenbeerenauslese or beerenauslese, which are the finest dessert wines made. Eisweins from Ontario come in both sparkling and red varieties. I would particularly recommend the Inniskillin cabernet franc Eiswein. Some CA vineyards, like Ridge, release bottles made from late harvest grapes of numerous varietals, but these do not approach the sweetness levels of a dessert wine. Hardy's, from Australia, makes a sparkling shiraz that is excellent, but it too may bot be as sweet as you want. It is an excellent food wine with dishes like rack of lamb and a wine reduction sauce. -- Larry |
