"Quick cooking" steel cut oats?
I went to Aldi today to buy lettuce. Walking down the cereal aisle
(you have to walk down the cereal aisle), I saw that they had steel cut oats -- a 24 ounce canister was $1.89. I can get them cheaper than that at the health food store, but it costs more than that in gas to drive out there. So I bought the oats at Aldi. Got home and looked at the label, and it says "quick cook". The directions look about like for old fashioned rolled oats (except these take more water); I think they cook in about 3 minutes. Anybody ever heard such a thing? I will open them up and try them tomorrow morning. -Bob |

That would be cool. I'd get that for 1.89. |

No, I have not seen these, but I will look for them in the store. I am wondering if I could use those to make granola, right now I am using rolled outs. Becca |

I've bought regular steel-cut oats (both McCann's and Trader Joe's); I handle them the same way I do rolled (but not quick-cook) oats -- nuke 'em for three or four minutes with some liquid. Works fine. You can also use them instead of rolled oats in bread recipes. Isaac |
