i don't eat honey very much, but to eschew it for fear of exploiting bees
seems a little far out.

Not at all. I'm a courteous smoker and don't smoke even in my own home
except in front of a fan in the window of the bathroom. I think the
smoking ban in bars that don't even sell food is over the top but all
the other bans are reasonable. But you bitching about someone on
another fairway is nuts. Folks have been smoking cigars on golf
courses for ever. Unless the course forbids it and it's 15 feet from
a public doorway it's legal so STFU!

I think you're right but to actually type what he did indicates he's
got other issues. How someone like that gets through real life
without someone punching them out is amazing.

I have a friend who is a RAW Vegan. Only fruits and vegetables - all
raw. Raw potatoes. asparagus, rutabaga, everything! He is firmly
convinced that eating anything animal is what causes all sickness.

No, a lot of fish-eaters lie and call themselves vegetarians.

I don't get the difficulty with that concept, so many people
say they're vegetarians ... but they eat chicken or fish.

With many, not all, it's not about what they eat so much as their moral superiority to you. Like carnivores who damn hunters. Animals allowed to have a nice, natural life vs. the 100,000 head of beef at Montfort Beef's yards surrounding Greeley, CO. Three such yards. Yup, 300,000 head, all just a standin' aorund; and you can smell it from miles away. Still, I happily went to the local steak place in greely (2 prime rib-$15) and enjoyed just like I do rabbit, squirrel and raccoon, oh and cats, too. JK, Shelly.

Don't know about other states, but the ban on smoking in bars in
California is just about employee health in the workplace. Smoking is
allowed in bars here as long as there are no employees. So a couple
with no employees who own a bar and do all the work themselves, can
allow smoking.

Better watch this guy, Lou! Right now there are three states between
you, but pretty soon he'll be pushing for a law that smokers have to be
at least five states away, so you'll have to go to Indiana every time
you want to smoke!

I don't think it tastes like garlic at all. I don't think it tastes like
anything, really. It just smells.

Yet very few fire eaters try plasma torches or use hydrazine as their
fuel. Sometimes having no idea what words mean makes you look dumb,
other times it's fatally stupid.

I don't understand, if you are going to eschew garlic, why use a
substitute?

All the substitutions vegans and vegetarians use for the "real" things
tell me that the decision to be vegan or vegetarian is
more political and judgemental than it is extremely personal. That
the decision was made because of how the person needs to be or wants
to be viewed by the larger community rather than because the
individual has made a deeply personal choice about what
foods they ingest. IMHO those who make the choice to be vegans or
vegetarians out of a deeply personal committment are NOT the militant
ones. They quietly go about their lives and their food choices
without ceremony.

As I stated in the original post of this thread, I have chosen to
follow a vegetarian diet, a vegan diet, an ovo-lacto vegetarian diet
and am now following an 'omnivore' diet. Those decisions on choosing
different ways of eating came from my own need to be seen in a
particular way by those I was associated with at the
time............following the crowd, so to speak.

I have since come to the understanding that my choice of foods are
made out of personal preference and the effects these foods have on my
body and mental health. I don't care what others think of my food
choices since I'm not making the to please others, only myself.

Therefore if I choose to eat a Tofurkey hot dog (blech) it would be
because I LIKE them (gag), not because of any agenda.

It's funny, I followed those same diets *without* any peer pressure. I just
enjoyed the challenge of cooking food that I liked within those constraints.
