Have you ever had a really bad experience with something that you
normally like but then all of a sudden it tastes awful. For years I
have been having liver pate on crackers almost every night. Some pates
are better than others. Lately we have been get Bittners herbed pate.
Last night I had a chunk of it on a cracker and it tasted awful I can't
describe the taste, but it was just plain nasty/ I was afraid that it
might have been rotten and was afraid to swallow it. I spit it out, I
wouldn't even give it to the dog.

Dang. That was my favourite canape, and I am so turned off by that
experience that I don't think I will ever try it again.

As a grade school kid, I loved the cafeteria chicken, gravy and
noodles. Until I got sick once and threw it up.

Same thing with Bacardi Light Rum, after Bryan and I and others drank
a bunch of it, and I had my first (and only!) got so drunk and puked
my guts out experience! We were pouring Bacardi in a glass and
slamming it and chasing it with CocaCola in another class, kind of a
hardcore run and Coke. I counted about 13 I think. Crawled to the
Porcelain Goddess, told Bryan and his girlfriend things I should never
should have, the whole nine yards. Never again though! I didn't want
any Bacardi Light for a long time after that.

I was surprised by a formerly favorite curry sauce.

For about 5 years now i have cooked only whole foods, not packaged or
preprocessed commercial 'food products'.

For the sake of a low/no salt diet an elderly relative (ER) is under
doctors orders to eat. A box of 'stove stop stuffing' sent her to the
hospital a few years ago.

But last october, for a treat i bought her a box of a Japanese curry
sauce we both liked. And i just forgot to look at the salt content on
the lable, made it up and tasted it and it was so salty i could barley
swallow it.

Then i looked on the box and saw some hugh salt amount i forget the
exact percentage of but had i seen originaly i would not have bought it.

But what amazes me is how much of it i used to eat and not notice the
saltyness of it.

After 5 years of a no salt diet it became very noticable.

Now days i buy plain curry powder and make my own sauce.

Beer. For a while in my late teens and early 20's, I enjoyed the taste
of beer and drank it in prodigious amounts.

Then I stopped. Didn't have a drink of any kind for almost 5 years.
When I tried beer again the taste almost made me gag... and it has been
that way ever since.

Yeah -- when you hit that soft, mushy spot when eating fried catfish.
Ewww.

I used to make oyster stew a lot, but then suddenly they tasted
funny. Haven't had courage to make again.

Hot dogs. I had one, went on the merry-go-round, and have never been
on a merry-go-round since!

Yeah, buddy, and Sue and I probably said/did a few things under the
influence of Bacardi...
What bizarre times. Hey, on Thursday I mailed Calliope a copy of
SotA. *She's* living in a commune in Virgina these days. The one
thing we REALLY NEED TO DIGITIZE is Weirdos on the Street/Quicksand.
NO MORE DELAYS with that. Really, John. Really. I might f-ing cry
if I knew that that tape got damaged before archiving it. THat, and I
haven't heard it for far too long.

Chilean sea bass. Had one bad one - at a favorite restaurant that has
always had top quality food - and can't abide the idea of
ordering/eating another.

Mussels. I used to love mussels. And yes, I know all about not eating
mussels that don't open after they're cooked. I still managed to get a bad
one. Spent the next day in the bathroom and it sure wasn't a "spa day"
I don't think I'll ever eat mussels again.

Bourbon. It was about 30 years ago when I was young and inexperienced.
I knew how to pace myself when drinking beer, but didn't realize you
could drink whiskey a whole lot faster than you actually absorb it, so
you keep getting more and more drunk even after you stop. I was sick
for a couple of days.

After about 10 years or so, I could drink Crown Royal again, then good
bourbon, and then eventually anything. But I'm careful with it.

Oysters. I ate about 30 bbq'd in the shell once and was sick for days.
I still eat them but only like 5-6.

I can imagine. My wife got sick on mussels and it reminded me of the
time I had food poisoning. I used to eat mussels regularly but not since
that happened to her. I am not willing to take the chance.

Southern Comfort for me. It goes down great on a hot summer day.
Haven't touched the stuff since.

Banananas. Got drunk on Wallbangers the night before I went to sea for
the first time. Threw up Wallbanger all day the next day and smelled
Galliano for a week. Was about 15 years before I could face a banana again.
