Hello, goodbye
 

Have been MIA for three weeks or so, down in Vegas. Trying to get my
computer down there configured for newsgroups, but have a conflict with
Office 2000 and 2007 butting heads, and can't uninstall either. So,
newsgroup withdrawals. Here in beautiful Utah until Tuesday, then back to
Gomorrah for two to three weeks until project completed.

Hope all of you are doing well, and eating right.

There's a distinction between a pimp and a spammer.
A spammer, by definition, sends identical or essentially
identical posts/emails/etc. to many, many destinations. As
opposed to someone who is merely continuously promoting
themselves.

No. All of my posts have been on topic, discussing the subject matter, my
experiences with it, and my thoughts about it. At the end, I put my sig
line. A spammer is someone who is only interested in posting their sig
line, or url, or some ootsie cutesie two sentence nonsense response like
yours, and does not significantly participate in the discussion.

Just thought the facts might help you grasp the situation.

Is it just me, or does anyone notice that a LOT of people here have linkouts
in their sig lines to url's of one sort or another? As long as the person
discusses the topic of the newsgroup, it is acceptable to have a url in a
sig.

The etiquette, last I checked, is that a .sig of no more than
two lines is okay, unless it advertises something of a
commercial nature, in which case it falls under the once-every-two-month
etiquette rule for maximum commercial speech on a given usenet group.

So, pimping one's noncommercial blog or whatever is still
acceptable.

I'm not sure where you draw the line if it's a link to a personal
blog with one or two commercial blurbs on it. One can always
over-tune these rules.

And the NetNannies can overinterpret their jobs. Sheesh, it's not like I'm
selling cooksets. I believe there are quite a few violations and violators
here, but it must relate to being in the right clique as to if it gets
noticed or ignored.

As those who took the time to investigate my site know, there is information
regarding salt, fat, food labels, and many health related issues that tie in
very well with any cooking or food newsgroups. I am proud of my site, and
any one who doesn't like it can just put it in their "don't like" category
with the spinach, cabbage, kippers, or whatever else is mouldering in there.

For the reasonable souls here, thank you for your support.
