She blitzed herself off my radar with her springroll recipe. No
cabbage or glass noodles? Rice filler!? Sorry. No thanks.

Not all spring rolls have cabbage ot glass noodles in them. Broaden
your horizons

Rice filler????

You must be looking at another recipe. No mention of rice (filler) in
there at all.

Springrolls are different all over the world. Quite a lot don't have
cabbage or glass noodles (ie, rice filler) in. She's talking mainly
about a commercially made product, available from any fish and chip
shop, or frozen food section of the supermarket........ but also made
in some restaurants.

> Rice filler!? *Sorry. *No thanks.

Rice filler??? You must be looking at a different recipe. There's no
mention of anything to do with rice in that recipe.

Sorry, but I'd prefer rice to cabbage.
What's wrong with rice as a filler?

I generally use shredded Romaine, but that's beside the point. ;-)

Let me guess... William Shakespeare? Lord Byron? Robert Burns?

Nothing, if you are talking about dolmas or Russian pirozhki.

Not every spring roll recipe has cabbage or 'glass noodles' (ie, rice
filler). Broaden your horizons...... the recipe she's talking about is the
ubiquitous 'spring roll' that we have here in Oz that is sold in just
about every fish and chip shop, and also can be purchased in the frozen
food section of the supermarket.

Very similar to a Chiko Roll, just different casings.

> Rice filler!? Sorry. No thanks.

"Rice filler"???

Methinks you were reading the wrong recipe...... there is no mention of
rice in that recipe, at all.

The traditional filling for rice/tapioca wrappers involves rice
vermicelli. My sister makes them that way.

I make them with a mix of romaine lettuce and meat/veggies.

Salad in a wrapper. ;-)

Works for me!

If I was more into carbs, I'd use more rice as I like it...

Did you get the pics of the 'spring rolls' I had at the chinese/vietnamese

LOL!!

The first rule of Spring Roll club..... there are no rules!! :-)

During summer, I like the fresh Vietnamese type rolls.... when it's a bit
cooler, I like the deep fried ones.

Here's a meal the BIL and I had at a small Chinese/Vietnamese place in
Newtown (Sydney). The place was called Pho.

The deep fried spring rolls (Chinese) are at the back.........

This is the fresh (Vietnamese) spring rols.......

Sorry for omitting the word "it".

Are you saying that the Aussie version of pirozhki recipe includes
vermicelli?

I'd already seen those, and given them a very high rating. :-)

Pretty!

Have you checked the spring rolls in my Picasa albums?

I doubt you'd want to receive about 57 from Sydney pics via email ;-)

LOL!!

For the third time..... yes :-)

The Goya mayo (lime infused?) sounds interesting.

The SO used to love the Hellmans Lime mayo, but it's vanished from all the
supermarket shelves around here.

I can only get lime based mayo in Goya and store brand. The Hellman's
vanished here too. I've considered e-mailing them! I love the stuff.

Those BLT spring rolls were wonderful. ;-d

Goya is a common brand around here for really good Mexican stuff. Beans,
Mayo, etc.

I can't remember which ones I sent you from Sydney anyways!! :-)

But, in the next day or so, I'm going to put them up on photobucket.

Soon as I get 5mins to scratch myself :-/

Hey, when you have time, post the link dear... :-)

Picasa is pretty fast and easy to upload. I just put up another small
series this morning for the little Japanese Hibachi that I took last
year.

"Little" being an understatement!!

Excellent unit for the single person though.

I have a "Son of Hibachi"...... two, actually. One I use regularly, and
one that will one day become a present of some sort for my sister :-)

No sweat...... had a look at the price comparisons, and the Amazon one
still works out cheaper, as you get free shipping.
