And the government does not a whole lot to keep out illegals.
Now for the food served at the White House; those crooks should have
been lucky to get a bread bowl full of New England Clam Chowder.

And you are not? ;-)

Okay, they don't pay income taxes, NOR in to the SSI system. I'd taken
that as a given as I count it on my total tax deductions from my
paychecks. Medicare taxes too.

And yet they collect benefits from all of it.

When you add it all up, immigrants pay a higher ratio of taxes
relative to benefits received than non-immigrants.

In my opinion it's mostly the white losers who want to evade as
many taxes as possible while collecting benefits they're probably
not qualified for.

But even were this not true, it would not change my opinion
on immigration. I resent the fact that various governments
around the world try to tell me where I can or can not travel,
work, and live. So by the Golden Rule I do not support my
government applying such restrictions to others.

(But since having no restrictions at all is not politically
feasible, I support as having as few restrictions and as little
enforcement as can be feasibly arranged. So, no fences, no
raids, no law enforcement except to counter violence, and as
much amnesty as we can shove through Congress.)

"Europeans out of North America" is a common bumper sticker
around here.

But, more seriously, governments everywhere should simply get
out of the business of trying to tell people where they
can or can't live or work. The idea that we can be anything
other than a global culture in a global economy has had its day.
It is time to simply move on.

And I think any true libertarian would agree with me... but there
are a lot of faux libertarians in the U.S. these days.

Actually, if they have forged papers to get a job, they pay taxes
without benefit. They pay Social Security but can never file for
nbenefits. They pay withholding and never file... and never get any
refunds.

Texas did a study a few years ago and found that illegal Mexican
immigrants actually have a net positive effect on the economy overall...
though they do cost some sectors of government money.

Here is a story from of all places, Fox news: http://tinyurl.com/3429xdh

And since you are in Texas, there was a study done in 2006:

http://www.hsdl.org/hslog/?q=node/3282

"Texas Comptroller Carole Keeton Strayhorn issued a report last week
stating undocumented immigrants added $17.7 billion to the gross state
product and produced $1.58 billion in state revenue in 2005. The $1.58
billion in state revenue is $420 million more than the $1.16 billion in
state services the illegal immigrants received, the report says. This
report provides a comprehensive financial analysis of the impact of
undocumented immigrants on a state’s budget and economy. Specifically,
the report looks at gross state product, revenues generated, taxes paid
and the cost of state services. “The absence of the estimated 1.4
million undocumented immigrants in Texas in fiscal 2005 would have been
a loss to our gross state product of $17.7 billion. Undocumented
immigrants produced $1.58 billion in state revenues, which exceeded the
$1.16 billion in state services they received. However, local
governments bore the burden of $1.44 billion in uncompensated health
care costs and local law enforcement costs not paid for by the state.”

You want to stop illegal immigration... it is easy to do. Make it
against the law to hire illegals. Put any businessman who hires
illegals in jail. Employment of illegals would stop immediately.

> When I get stopped for a traffic violation, I get asked for ID. Why
> should stopping anyone of "color" be any different? That is just as
> racist as any other proposed practice!

The problem with the Arizona law as it was ORIGINALLY written was that
the police had the authority to stop anyone at any time to ask them to
prove citizen ship. After the hue and cry came about, the law was
changed to where now a cop can ask for proof of citizenship in the
course of investigating another crime.

People were upset that the ORIGINAL law gave the ability to police to
make random stops on anyone and everyone to make them prove their
citizenship. I was born in this country, not Russia. I don't need any
"papers" to walk down the street minding my own business and if I'm not
in the act or under reasonable suspicion of breaking the law, being
stopped by the authorities to "show my papers" is a violation of my
constitutional rights against unlawful search and seizure.

Again, you want to stop illegal immigration, it is simple. Start
throwing business people in jail for hiring them. Dry up the jobs and
you dry up the foot traffic across the border.

And a bonus thought.........

You want to end the drug wars in Mexico? Make marijuana legal here in
the US. Tax the hell out of it and regulate it just like booze and
cigarettes, but dry up the need for it to be brought in from Mexico and
all of a sudden, the Mexican drug cartels have no customers.

Yep, that's true of any eatery... they all serve garden salad,
burgers, fries, and a whatever they can concoct at their bar... even
the largest Greek diners in NYC serve very few Greek dishes other than
a Greek salad, spanakopitah, and gyro... which is the same as the
house salad except for the fehta, and olivas.

Check the rules for moving to Mexico. You'd be amazed at the restrictions.

(Scatchs head)... I have no idea how you got from what I wrote above,
to what you wrote.

I've researched Canada. (And a couple other countries.) Canada is
relatively easy to legally migrate to. Especially Quebec, which
has the shortest waiting list.

Marry me?

ObFood: I've never had a wedding, but sometimes for fun, I plan my

Sheldon and you are both wrong -- as usual. Bayless got ALL his recipes from
Mexico -- and most often from parts of Mexico which are not even CLOSE to
Texas. Do you think that tamales and ceviche ORIGINATE in Tex-Mex cookery?
Do you think that Tex-Mex mole even reflects a shadow of authentic Oaxacan
mole -- the mole which Bayless prepared for the state dinner?

You are talking from zero knowledge about real Mexican food. I think you're
just trying to bait me again -- and you didn't like the way that turned out
last time, did you?

Hear hear. <g>

The only problem is is that would not cover the Heroin coming of
Mexico... altho' the middle east is the biggest growers of Opium
poppies.

Then there is Cocaine.

While I heartily believe in the regulation and decriminalization of Pot,
I'm not so sure about the other two...

Most of my property tax bill every year is school taxes. $1,200.00 per

I saw a pic recently of a protest concert against Arizonas (such and such)
law...... which said something about illegals.

I remember looking at it and thinking it was taken in the Philippines, or
South America........ because there wasn't one white face amongst the whole
crowd!!

LOL!! Tried to find it again, but only found a reference to it.

The concert was held in Mexico City's Zócalo, or main square.

Mexicans...... protesting against a law that will try and stop their
illegal activities..... you gotta luv it!! :-)

So you expect them to roll over and do nothing when one-third
of their country has been snatched from them by an agressor?

You don't know much about human nature. Recall the Serbs
tried to reclaim Kosovo when they hadn't controlled it
for 800 years or so. Ask any Serb and they think Kosovo
is still theirs.

Nobody expects sovereignity to revert to Mexico, except for
a few Aztlan extremists, but it is a fundamental part of
U.S. / Mexican relations that the U.S. cannot mistreat Mexicans who
are in the southwestern U.S., and this has been true for 160 years.
This is why the Arizona attitude is going nowhere.

Baiting you can be fun, as long as you stay on topic and don't start
cheating by making off topic nasty accusations. That really was not
terribly impressive you know!

So you believe that Calderon lives in the USA? And is President of Mexico at
the same time? Or is it just that you think Mexico is a kind of appendix of
Texas?

Was that a recent development??

Must have happened while I was away on holidays..... I never heard
anything about it.

It has a lot to do with the 'base' mentality.

Hey!! I have no problem with Mexicans living anywhere, so long as they do
it the legal way, get papers/green card, and then accept US citizenship(or
whatever country they go to).

I had to do it when I married a US citizen.... I also had to enter the
country *legally* to do it.

California is 3/4 Mexican now, and English is the second language there,
just imagine what it would be like if *every* illegal was sent back home.

As for "mistreating Mexicans" by asking for their proof of citizenship....
I've had to show proof of citizenship in just about every country I have
ever visited...... I don't have a problem with it, and would never say I
was being "mistreated" because of it. I'll leave those sort of sentiments
to the bleeding heart tree huggers.

<sigh> No. He is objecting to Arizona law being applied to his illegal
people that live there.

You said *HE* -- meaning Calderon -- has no respect for our laws. That was
just a stupid thing to say, since he has no reason to respect the laws of
any country other than his own. Calderon never said that Mexicans living in
Arizona illegally should not be subject to Arizona law. That's just your
attempt at putting words into his mouth -- or maybe it's just some
hallucination you're having.

I think you should take a hiatus from posting until the drugs are out of
your system.

That Mexico City would stage a 'protest concert' decrying another
countries laws that will try and stamp out Mexicans illegal
activities...... yes, I was a tad suprised.

It must be written into the Mexican Constitution that every citizen must
try and become a 'wetback'.

We have visa 'over-stayers'........ but no real illegal immigration per
se.

Well, apart from the bloody 'boat people' coming out here and setting
themselves on fire to gain resident status.

And the visa over stayers are constantly hounded, and found, and deported.
I can tell you here and now, if any Aussies got wind of any 'illegals' in
their area, a very quick phone call would be made to the relevant
authorities.

England is the one with the real problem.
