Is anybody else suffering from Blue Lid Anxiety Syndrome? (with the
occasional reddish lid thrown in to make matters even worse?)

OK. Blue lid anxiety is caused by owning or collecting many of those
Ziploc, Glad, Hefty, HEB, and Oscar Meyer containers with blue lids
(red for the last) and clear bodies.

Each container is designed to look exactly like the other, except
for small discrepancies around the rims. No lid fits any of the
competitors containers. And no container is labeled as to their
manufacturer.

I made a rule in my house that only HEB brand containers will be
bought from now on. But those little green men under the bed have
been scurrying out at night and bringing home foreign containers
from god knows where. And it'S ****ING ME oFF TRYiNG TO FIND A LID
THAT MATCHES A CONTAINER! DAMMIT!

So now you know. Sign my petition.

I have a roll of masking tape in the kitchen. I place an inch or two on
the lid and indicate the contents with a marking pen.

slightly different in size. One lid fits on both bottoms and the
other on only one... invariably, family members will chose the lid
that fits both to cover the bottom of the smaller one, leaving me to
figure out where the lids that fits the remaining bottom is hiding.
Right now, I have a whole slew of tops and bottoms that don't fit
because someone has taken leftovers home not returned the containers.

I hate the sort of square shaped Glad lids that have to be placed just
right in order to fit. They are square, but the lid only fits in one
position.

However, after fighting my husband for years over how to store these
containers - he finally won. We store them with the lid attached.
Luckily, I have a cabinet big enough. I used to stack the lids and
bowls separately - which is necessary if you have limited space.

I've been a ZipLoc fan since they came out.
One ( square ) lid fits all, one ( round ) lid fits all.
Then they "imoroved the product" and the new/old lids
are not interchangeable with the new/old containers.
Grrrrr.... Wrote an eMail complaint to Mr.ZipLoc,
got the usual "envelope of coupons" as a mea-culpa.

I had a short romance with the RubberMaid ( red lid ) containers.
Within three weeks, four failures. ( cracks ).
Surprising ! RubberMaid is usually "good stuff"

I'm back to ZipLoc. ( using up the old ones first )
Then toss 'em when they really get ratty
from the spaghetti/microwave connection.

It's not the contents we have a problem with. It's covering the
contents with the appropriate lid.

Thank you Ophelia. I thought maybe a was mental defective there for

After several years of dealing with the tupperware/glad/whatever plastic
ware avalanche, mismatched lids, etc. in my cabinet, I tossed them all and
just use dishes covered with wrap or foil and pyrex glass dishes with the
rubbery lids. I hate plastic. My everyday dishes are great, sturdy Noritake
oven and microwave safe, pretty too.

Right.

I figure that unless they are stuffed full, there won't be
many pthalates or too much bisphenyl-A migrating out of the
lid into the food.

But to avoid even that possibility, there are the jars with
glass lids and a little wire closure mechanism, or pyrexware
with glass lids (although those don't seal tight).

refrigerator storage is usually glass (or ceramic) bowls topped with
plastic wrap. we're talking a couple few days, right?
