Been searching...

I've been bhrowsing reviews of local resturants... this one sounds very
promising... would you give it a shot? I will probably give it a try within
the next two weeks.

A Classic for 50 Yrs

posted July 22, 2004

Gibby got it right from the start some 50 years ago. And you don't fix what
ain't broken. The original 1952 Mountain View diner is 95% in tact, though the
booth seats are worn out and a bit lumpy. In my 32 years of eating here I can't
remember any meal being less than excellent. At first the prices may seem high
for a diner, but the quality and quantity of the food justify them. Except for
breakfast, I don't eat "light" at Gibby's. I will skip lunch to make room for a
dinner. Soup or salad? If my favorite NE clam chowder isn't offered it's the
always fresh and vibrant garden salad. The small loaves of bread that accompany
your meal are fresh, soft, and delicious. Pork chop dinner...not one large,
succulent chop, not two, but THREE. The big Texan steaks don't fit on the
plate. Order the Cowgirl if you want a more normal size steak. If you don't
like green olives, as I don't, you won't like the meatloaf. Otherwise, it's
fine. You will not be a disappointed no matter what you order. Don't attempt to
eat all that's put in front of you because you'll want to save room for
dessert. Good luck choosing just one. One thing says it all...name another
diner or restaurant that is closed two days a week (Mon & Tue), is only open
7am-7pm, closes every winter and still be in business for 50+ years. The diner
is actually located on Rt 7 in the village of Quaker Street (yes, that is the
name of the town), NOT Delanson.

I would certainly try it. Any diner who's been around that long has to be
doing something right.
We're often looking for new places to try around here as well, and I wish
I'd come across a find like the one described in your post. Do let us know
how you like it when/if you decide to try it. I'm curious to hear what you
think!

snipped review

I've driven by that place on the way to Howes Caverns, the Old Stone Fort,
etc.. I'll make a point of stopping there next summer since I actually have
to do some research in Quaker Street.

Kimberly, have you been to the Hob Nob Hill Cafe? (Sandy Eggo) That is what
I first though of when I read Sheldon's post. No giant steaks, but the rest
sounds similar.
