Not really... perhaps you've been using some ancient mace... freshly ground
blade mace is as strong as freshly ground nutmeg, even stronger. And I'd not
substitute one for the other, they taste completely different, that's why in
blends they are both included (they complement each other)... to say nutmeg can
be substituted for mace one may as one say either may be used in place of
cinnamon since generally all three are contained in blends, sometimes cloves as
well. Folks who think one spice can be subbed for another probably at home
only have s n' p (pre-ground mystery pepper).
