Coincidently "adobo" is (and always was) the 1st product listed in the Penzeys catalog. Adobo Seasoning "A traditional and popular Mexican spice mix. Not hot, but spicy and rich in flavor, and salt-free. Use 1 /2 -1 tsp. per pound and rub on chicken, fish and pork. Great for the grill, just sprinkle fish or meat with a bit of lime juice, rub on Adobo, add salt to taste, then grill (or broil). Add to taco or chili meat or beans for that South-of-the-border flavor, use 1-2 tsp. per pound and fry with the meat before adding to the sauce. Great for easy guacamole, just mix 1 tsp. Adobo Seasoning in 1 TB. water, add to 2 mashed avocados with a squeeze of lemon or lime juice, a shake of salt and a pinch of hot pepper. Adobo Seasoning is great for perking up low-sodium and low-fat diets, just sprinkle on in place of salt and pepper before cooking. Hand-mixed from: garlic, onion, Tellicherry black pepper, Mexican oregano, cumin and cayenne red pepper." --- ---= BOYCOTT FRENCH--GERMAN (belgium) =--- ---= Move UNITED NATIONS To Paris =--- Sheldon ```````````` "Life would be devoid of all meaning were it without tribulation." |

I usually buy a 4oz jar of something new and see if I like it, then I buy the 4 or 8oz bags for refilling - cheaper that way and you can re-use the jar. |

... : I will be ordering spices from Penzey's....Any idea's of what I should order : 1st? I appreciate your help...Thanks. : Sandy : : ============= Depends upon how empty your spice cabinet is and what you prefer. That being said, I whole heartedly recommend: Sunny Paris Sate (it's a sweet-hot curry powder blend) Bavarian Seasoning Sarawak Black Peppercorns Northwoods Seasoning Bouquet Garni Pasta Sprinkle (I usually blend my own but Penzeys' blend is superb) Parisien Bonnes Herbes and anything else you might be needing! What you order will largely depend on what kind of food you like to cook. Get the things that you need to make the dishes you make most often. As for my personal recommnedations, I absolutely love love love Fox Point. Of the blends I've tried so far, it's definitely my favorite. I like the sandwhich sprinkle (aka crouton seasoning) for garlic bread. It's especially good on sour dough. Brady Street Cheese Sprinkle is another one I'm a fan of. I use it to make the topping to go on top of homemade breadsticks. I just tried out the Fajita seasoning last night, and I thought it was pretty good, but I did add a touch more pepper and garlic powder. The jury is still out on the Galena Street and Ozark seasoning. I've tried the Galena street twice, and still can't make up my mind. I used it once as part of the rub on a small pork shoulder I was attempting to turn into southern style real bbq, and once during finals week I threw some on some pork chops, put them in the oven, and then put some bbq sauce on there. Those didn't turn out so great, but I was more worried about getting a paper wrote than food that night, so I think another trial with the galena street is in order. Ozark, I've tried once, so I need to sample a few more times. The pepper is excellent. I've had their Korintje Cassia Cinnamon, which is wonderful. I havne't tried the Vietnamese Cinnamon yet, but I know it comes highly recommended around here. I've been happy with their cocoa powders as well--both the natural and the dutch process I've got--but haven't yet had the chance to try--the Bicentennial Rub, Fines Herbes, Northwoods, Old World, Pariesen Bonnes Herbes, and Sunny Paris. I've tried quite a bit of the standard type cooking spices--oregano, basil, etc.--and there hasn't been a one that I haven't been impressed with. |

The only thing I haven't really liked is their Lamb Seasoning. Too
much oregano - but I think that may just be my personal taste as when I used it everybody else was pleased with the result. If you've never used ground coriander before, Penzey's will spoil you for anything else. Lynn in Fargo |

I'll second your call on Fox Point and Brady Street. I personally (and my family) like Galena St quite a bit. Also use their Curry and Garam Masala regularly. Rec'd at Christmas a package that included Bicentennial and Singapore, among others. I've tried each a couple of times, and they're both keepers. John Gaquin |
