Freeze it now. Next time, freeze it when you buy it. Bas shouldn't get
creepies....I've have creepies in all kinds of Indian stuff, but never
bas. Where are you? Even our backwoods Costco has basmati.

Default Crawling Rice Protein

Tired of paying $8 for 5 lbs of Tilde basmati rice with $9 for
shipping, so I shopped a Mediterranean store in town and bought 25 lbs
of Pakastani basmati for about $8. 25 lbs. was the smallest quantity
offered. This came in a nice cloth bag with handles and a zipper and
after a month, some creepy-crawlies.

Yeah, I know . .it's protein. But I had been washing what I used. Most
American grown rice states "doesn't need rinsing" but I think I'll
continue rinsing all my rice.

Most oriental grocery stores in the Ottawa area keep the rice and bugs in
separate containers so the customers can mix their own blend.

Consider dumping some bay leaves into the rice bag to stop the bugs getting
into the bag or scaring them out of the bag.

Rice marked "Enriched" does not need washing, nor should it be washed, lest the
added nutrients be washed away. Virtually all rice grown and packaged in the
US needs no washing.

Good idea! Any of the aromatic mints will do the same thing.

Put either or both of these (dried) inside and then tie a
wreath or bunch of them around the neck of the bag after giving
it a week for the current residents to depart. (Or hatch and
depart...Be sure to leave a way for them to escape and perhaps
a little bag of rice nearby to attract them, which can then
be dumped/burned/buried.

I keep my rice in the freezer to prevent this. ;-)

The only (monetary) depression you will be encountering as a result of a 2nd
Bush term (and there WILL be a 2nd Bush term) is your own stupidity to
properly invest in a rising stock market. Millions of people have for
centuries been enjoying beans and rice. They are great with enchiladas or
fajitas. Now as for the toasted cockroaches, well whatever floats your
boat. Not for me, but you can go for the unwashed rice and continue to
writhe in the ignorance of propaganda and stand on the sidelines as this
county moves forward with a real leader. Thank GOD that Gore isn't
president, and it's quite obvious that Kerry has NOTHING. Do you really
want to gamble this country's future ( and your children's if you are mature
enough to have children) on someone with a 19 year history of voting
against keeping our country properly armed and feeling as though we need
other's "permission" to defend ourselves? Thank you, but I'm not willing to
consider that as a viable possibility.
I encourage you to get comfortable and prepare for 4 more years. And it
will be 4 more years of taking it to the terrorists, and yes, young
Americans will die, but tell me....maybe you prefer the airplanes into the
buildings with the 3000 dead approach on our soils as opposed to the dead
terrorists on foreign soil??? Perhaps you would enjoy more the "dirty bomb"
detonated in times square? Wake up shit head. Now go wash your rice and
sit down and shut up.

Good ole Memphis, almost as tropical as New Orleans, but more creative
in lice, mice, mould and mildew.

I really like the Indian basmati--seems to have more flavor and a
better texture. Maybe it's the bugs.

Naw. But freezin is right on. Thanks.

This is either a bunker-mentality or an ostrich speaking. Maybe both.
I'd ignore him unless the encounter was in a dark alley and he's toting
