Perhaps. Maybe it's because most of us who are that annoyed by it
are also friends with people who are annoyed by it and/or don't go out
with people who do that on a regular basis. For example, almost
everyone I know has and carries a cell phone. However, I almost never
hear them ring, they are never on them unless there is an emergency or
kid related issue, and those are extremely rare. There are a few
people, Rich included, who have to carry them for work, and they always
explain if they have to have it on, why and then are discreet and polite
about its usage.

Ranee

We were just talking about that earlier. Here on campus the students seem
to be *always* talking on cell phones while walking or sitting. I
suggested that perhaps they used to talk to each other in person.

While strolling on the campus of Duke University last week, I saw a student
couple (male and female) walking, obviously together, each chatting away on
a cell phone. I was sorely tempted to ask them if they were talking to each
other!
