cooking for one - good references?

Hi all,

Seeing I just cook for little ol' me..... I was wondering whether there
were any particular books and/or websites, etc that you'd recommend that
dish out recipes for one.... if you know what I mean.

Buy "Home Cooking" by Laurie Colwin, and read her chapter entitled
"alone in the kitchen with an eggplant". Even if you don't find it
useful, it's a great read and well worth it. Check it out at

The following PDF has some excellent pointers and some decent recipes.
Many of the recipes are specifically designed for making additional
portions that freeze well.

Don't just cook for one every night. cook for more and freeze the excess
then you can take it for lunches or have it when you can't be bothered
cooking. Thats what I always did when I was cooking for one.

Joyce Goldstein just published a cookbook called Solo Suppers. The
recipes I've seen from it look very tasty.

It's very hard to cook for one. But there are some nice recipes and
cookbooks devoted to cooking for TWO and you can usually freeze half
for a later date and then nuke it when you can't be bothered
cooking...

From other posts, I gather you are in Oz? So not sure if this will be
of help.

I, too, cook for just me most of the time. I prepare all kinds of
"freezer" meals for lunches: soups, pasta dishes, curries,
casseroles, etc. For dinners, I tend to cook pretty simply. I get
salmon, chicken, etc, from Costco (this is what I mean about it not
being applicable, perhaps, to an Ozzie), and package it up in
individual portions with my foodsaver. I prepare it in whatever
fashion that strikes my fancy which, again, is usually a pretty simple
preparation, I'm a minimalist at heart :-) I add a couple of veggies
and/or a salad and that's it. Not much difficulty.
