Actually, I ate them. They were better than spinach. I've posted some
pics.

I *told* you the greens were good. (my compliments on the the picture
of the cooked beetroots. They look amazingly disgusting.)

Thank you re the photo. Now I have to decide if I want to buy the beets
just for the greens. Hmmm, I wonder if I can get the vendor to whack
the beets and just give me the greens -- then he/she can worry about
disposal. Yeah, yeah, you told me about the greens. Finally, I
listened.

There are some markets that sell the greens and roots separately, or
sell the greens attached to baby roots instead of the big honkers.
That'd save you considerable pain and suffering. Although that would
deprive Victor of his jelly...

They frequently go by the name "red chard". Good stuff (but, then, _I_
think the roots are good, too). :-)

IIRC, red chard is different from beet greens.

Yup, they are different plants, but often used interchangeably. In my opinion
beet greens are more tender and flavorful, closer to spinach, than chard, but
both are very good. I plant both. Chard of course yields a larger greens crop
by about triple, but no succulent root.

I like (LOVE) beet greens more than beets too. In the olden
daze, when beets came with stems and the grocer cut them off
in the store, I'd ask them for the greens (which were free).
They couldn't believe that I actually ATE them. <sigh> Now
the secret is out. They are much, much, tastier than red
chard.
