I am not really fond of turkey anyway. I much prefer the free-range capon I get at the Greenmarket. Thanksgiving is Boring - What to do?

In such cases, wait till Dec 23-24 to buy and still come up with a nice tree. Xmas tree places sell them for pennies on the dollar (one year, $.50 for a nice 5 footer!). If the family can all gather around, lovingly unwrap the family decorations, decorate the tree together, who cares what day it occurs? As a kid, our family decorated and celebrated a couple xmas eve's in this manner, opening our presents the next morning. Santa never seemed to mind. I know I didn't. nb |

I was a single parent by choice ( I filed when my son was 1 month old ). Well on his third Christmas I was pretty hard up for money. I managed to take $10 from peter and my son and I went after dark to a local nursery that sold Christmas trees. Trees were going for $20 and I knew that when we went but I figured we could find a little one for $10. Several times I was asked if I needed help and while I kept seeing the high price tag I couldn't afford I kept saying no. Finally after awhile this man came over and said let me help you find a tree and I could tell he sized up the situation. He said how much money do you have, I told him $10 and he said Oh I have one for $10 and he took me over to the most beautiful tree you would ever want to see ! Dony and I almost cried with excitement.! Let me tell you, There is a God there is a Santa and there are some wonderful people in this world!!! p.s I drive a nice sports car now , but that was back in the day when I had 3 strips deep of duct tape on my windshield where it had rusted out!!!! But life was good!!!! ;-) peace, Barbara |

When I put up a tree in our home, we always left it up until January 7. I haven't put one up in about three years or so, I think. Don't know if I can get away with it this year, though. The whole fun of Xmas eve in our family was spending the evening decorating the tree and wrapping presents. Parents and older kids would end up staying up half the night to finish wrapping and then be rudely awakened by the smaller kids who went to bed early and thus got up at 6am and wanted to "have Xmas"! We have many the photo of people with bleary red eyes who only got 3 hours of sleep. ;-) Kate -- Kate Connally “If I were as old as I feel, I’d be dead already.” Goldfish: “The wholesome snack that smiles back, Until you bite their heads off.” What if the hokey pokey really *is* what it's all about? |

The beauty of written communication -- avoid the >question if you wish. <grin> > Its not my house to invite anyone to, but if you like the idea, try to sell it to your family. Another possible TG theme-- what the Plymouth colony could have eaten if they weren't clueless city folk. Plymouth harbor was clean, crawling with lobsters right up to the shore. Wild oysters, mussels, clams, periwinkles could be gathered without a boat. Codfish were so thick everywhere that with a small boat you could hardly avoid them. Of course, codfish didn't taste as good then because they were so common.:-) Now that they are endangered they taste much better. :-( Rodney Myrvaagnes NYC J36 Gjo/a "Be careful.
