Dear posters, what did we turkeys ever do to you? We're innocent birds
who have done no one any harm. Yet you slaughter us by the tens of millions during the Thanksgiving season. Why? You say you want to thank god but what do we have to thank for? Why should we be sacrificed just so you can thank God? Just so you can stuff yourselfs and become fat and watch Football games. Please spare me and my family. Please don't kill us en masse. They get so big they can hardly waddle! <G> Ladybird, the broad breasted white, should have had this happen to her as well, but with Lucky Tom chasing her around for mating, she keeps her weight down. I've had her now for 3 years and she is doing well. She also lays the most FABULOUS eggs. Turkey eggs are wunderful pan steamed with a little butter. I tried hatching some of her first year eggs, but they did not hatch. I'm thinking next year that if a Muscovie hen goes broody while Lady is laying again, I might try letting them set them instead of using an incubator. Muscovie ducks are big enough to set 6 or 7 turkey eggs. He forgot to tell me these were to grow to very large sizes, in the 20 to 30 pound class. And he forgot to tell me they were a male and a female. A few months later we had over 20 of them. We would have had more but males have the nasty habit of castrating other males by biting them where it hurts most. We had to keep the bucks separate form each other. I decided to cook one to see what they tasted like. I still remember the horrified look in my daughter's face when I had Isabel (they all had names except the two bucks) ready to slaughter. I had to let her go. They say they taste like chicken. I will never know although my supermarket carried them for a while. I gave them away to a guy who raised them after a visit from the county inspector and a citation for keeping livestock on a residential lot. By the way, they produce lots of fertilizer that smells to high heaven. Worse than hog pens. |

All you fellow meat-eaters. How many times do we need to tell you. Quit falling for their bait. This is how PETA gets off. The put stuff like this on their sites, wait for you to go off and then use it against us. The best response for this is to ignor it or post your favorite recipe using turkey. They don't think rationally like normal people do. They would put an animal over a human any day of the week. They sponser terrorist groups (read Animal Liberation Front). They use tactics like this to recruit people to their cause. John |
