A bit of Sunday afternoon trivia

Can you tell I have too much time on my hands...not! LOL

From a food trade email newsletter:

Amazon.com's Top 10 Best-Sellers
Here are Amazon.com's top sellers in the Kitchen & Dining category for
the week of Sept. 28-Oct. 5, 2009:

1. Vinturi Essential Wine Aerator
2. Cuisinart CSB-76BC SmartStick 200-Watt Immersion Hand Blender,
Brushed Chrome
3. Cuisinart DCC-RWF Replacement Water Filters, 2-Pack
4. Heineken BT10001 BeerTender Tubes, 10 Count
5. Hamilton Beach 33967 Set 'n Forget 6-Quart Programmable Slow Cooker
6. Krups 203-42 Fast Touch Coffee Grinder, Black
7. Taylor Digital Minute/Second Timer
8. Aroma AWK-115S 1-1/2-Liter Hot H20 X-PressWater Kettle
9. Keurig My K-Cup Reusable Coffee Filter
10. Silpat 11-5/8-by-16-1/2-Inch Nonstick Silicone Baking Mat

We don't have any of these ;)

Our coffe grinder is a Wallymart cheapie, slow cookers are Crock Pot and
our nonstick baking mats are two different brands bought in the UK.

At least #10 is "silicone" and not "silicon". I know my own text
is rife with mispelled words but that one drives me crazy.

Six silpats? Do you bake that much? The two generic ones we have are
plenty for us.

LOL. When getting my science-teaching quals, that sort of difference was
stressed.

I love cooking with wine.
Sometimes I even put it in the food.

Everybody has some spelling or grammar mistake that grates on them,
but that one... I dunno, things could be worse. Maybe it's because
I'm not in the computer or IT field.

Mixes air into wine as you pour through it into the glass. Faster
than "letting it breathe". It probably works, but I like the ritual
of decanting the wine to accomplish the purpose. -aem

I was given one for a birthday present five months ago but I am still
unconvinced that it makes much difference. Has anyone done any
comparative blind tests? I began to wonder sometimes when I found that a
special model was made for white wines in addition to the original.

Or plastic surgery?

The funny thing is, silicone is made with silicon (among other things).

Presumably aerate wine? To help the flavour along.

Lots of plonk actually improves a *bit* when the bottle is left open on
the counter for a couple of days. Used to do that with the endless
bottles of wine friends would bring for parties. Preferred to serve what
was already purchased, so the lesser 'vintages' were opened and left to
aerate on their own. Decent enough for cooking at any rate.

LOL but I'm doing the grinder a misservice. It's actually from Hamilton
Beach. We also have a mortar and pestle, as well as a Japanese
suribachi/surikogi, but can't imagine my doing a good job on the coffee
beans with either. We still use parchment paper as well...the two aren't
always interchangeable...try lining a cake pan with a nonstick mat :)

You're hopelessly old fashioned aem! I mean that in a good way.

Poorly worded... I meant "How does it work?" I can only visualize
those aerators you pop in a fish tank.
