Rome - day 2
We went to the Coliseum (a short walk from the hotel) and surrounding ruins. Pictures much better than mine are easily googled. We were here & there http://i35.tinypic.com/2qbu1rb.jpg http://i35.tinypic.com/dm3dy9.jpg ceiling http://i35.tinypic.com/2aenits.jpg we found ruins that weren't even marked at the end of our street http://i37.tinypic.com/tah950.jpg Today's food finds are Pasta http://i38.tinypic.com/2virs6a.jpg specialty pasta http://i35.tinypic.com/2w4y8v7.jpg cheese http://i37.tinypic.com/29c5r1d.jpg and a (self serve) deli case http://i38.tinypic.com/dbt69z.jpg -- I love cooking with wine. Sometimes I even put it in the food. |

So much is so old, people take most of it for granted. I remember passing a courtyard entrance in the old section of florence one afternoon, as a young business woman was entering to go up to her apartment. Her stylish 4-inch heels clicked across a mosaic floor that had to have been done in the 1400s. |

The pictures sure look good. Most days in Italy, one of our meals was bread, cheese, salami, and wine. Try to find the off the path stores and you get a great selection of wines for a little as 3 Euro a bottle. What did you think of the Coliseum? Awe inspiring just standing in there. |

I would say it was well thought out. Seems it even cums in different sizes. I assume it's to be served with a meat gravy. Lou |

I'd like to share a tidbit from my Italian adventure in the early 90s. So I'm ambling around town and I see this sign "Senso Unico". I see it again a little bit later and then several times again here and there...and I think to myself "man Senso Unico is one long zig zaggy street..." I can't find in on the maps (map geek) but soon after figure it out. :-) |

I got this real neat book in Rome that showed the Coliseum in its day and had overlays of it through the ages. It was a tourist thing, but it's cool. The only expensive thing I bought in Rome was a rosary from the Vatican gift shop for the mother of a dear friend. Though I never met the woman, she prayed her rosary for me when I was so sick 3 years ago and I thought it would be such a nice thing to get her a rosery from the Vatican. It was supposedly blessed, too. Whatever that means. Rose, the lady I bought the rosary for, is thrilled with it. I'm thrilled to have made such a kind person so happy. -- Janet Wilder Way-the-heck-south Texas Spelling doesn't count. Cooking does. |

Well you ought to see the cheese and salumi case at OUR market! It's positively craptacular. Well, it would be if our market had a salumi case. -- modom |

We have lots of those streets in this area, but I didn't even think of going into a wine shop.... mainly because I didn't want to lug a bottle of wine with me for who knows how long. I will definitely do it soon though. >What did you think of the Coliseum? Awe inspiring just standing in there. > It's really something!
