That was pretty funny.

This year we're doing two of the above: my extended family's throwing me
a little party this weekend, and I'm taking James, Carin, and the kid to
sushi, because hey, birthday sushi!

I often just have a few family members/friends over for a meal (sometime
close to my birthday) or sometimes DH takes me out for a meal. When
that happens there's a Portuguese restaurant that I love to go to...

Nope, my crystal ball is all fogged up ;-)

Anyway, nobody else has claimed it, so you're welcome to it. And seeing
as how you so kindly donated your last TFH to Lynn (IIRC), I think you
deserve another one anyway... <g>

WHOA!!! Next year my birthday's on a Sunday. I'm so out to lunch, err...
Brunch!!! <VBG>

Any other day I'll roast a 4lb. chateaubriand with mashed potatoes, cut green
beans and a few pounds of caramelized onions with a FEW bottles of wine for
me and the hungry BUMS!!! in attendance.

I enjoy treating more than being treated.

My Sis-IL was so aggravated and vocal about turning 50. We all had to listen
to her for months! Came my birthday dinner at a restaurant, I gifted her and
her boyfriend a vacation to St. Thomas, VI, leaving on her 50th birthday,
just to shut her up. Quite all of a sudden, NOT by surprise, she couldn't
wait to turn 50. :)))

my girlfriend usually takes me to dinner sometime around my birthday.

on the actual day, i call my mother to thank her for having me. without
fail, her response is 'oh, is that today?' but i don't know hers either,
really. i have it written down somewhere.

I had to read that three times before I figured out that you weren't
having sushi with James Caan. Allergies must be getting to my eyes.

Having just celebrated my birthday, my method is to not tell anyone,
and then get very very angry at my family when they forget. Now,
where did I put my meds....

(ps: my sister wished me a HB on FB, DH saw it, and emailed DD. I
didn't get to get mad at anyone!)

Do you celebrate your sock puppets birthday?? <lolol>
I rarely run a sock puppet except to answer trolls from other lists
(when I'm really bored) and I have no idea of their "birth dates".

As for my real b-day, we used to go out until it got to be too expensive
to go out for overcooked, oversalted, overated and overpriced food.

Nowadays for myself and family members, we just get some expensive treat
food (like lobster, crab, good steaks etc.) and cook in. My sister and
I, and the brother in law are all good cooks! :-)

MCINL (again). Sometimes we go out. Sometimes we plan to go out
and fail to, either because the weather sucks or one of us is sick.
February birthdays are no fun. Usually we don't do much of anything.
It's just another day. In college, I often had a midterm on my
birthday.

For my husband's birthday, we buy a prime rib and cook it. It's his
favorite.

What a nice thing to do! Better than a Mother's Day corsage.

Nope, I was second, but I thought for sure I'd be first because I
responded something like two minutes after your message showed up on my

Ooh, I don't think I've ever eaten at a Portuguese place. (But I did
live a stone's throw from Portugal when I was a pre-teen, so I probably
ate a fair bit of Portuguese food without knowing it.)

I've done it in the past when the family got together and I felt like
introducing a new recipe or two instead of going out to dinner. It's
really no different from cooking for any other occasion or holiday.

As I get older, I do appreciate going out to celebrate, however. I get
tired a lot easier than I used to. :-(

it's funny. one evening we were eating dinner, and on the radio came the
news her ob/gyn had been arrested for performing (then) illegal abortions.
my dad turned to me and said, 'see? you were lucky!'
