And I'm just about ready for it! One last swipe of the jars with a damp
towel, apply labels, compare entries to registration information, get
the donated baskets ready to deliver and I'll deliver all of it tomorrow
afternoon. Whee! The Tomato Jam is wonderful!

Funny you should ask... with the recent spate of hot dry weather my garden
is on the mend... just picked a peck of pickling cukes and decided not an
hour ago to put up some brined garlic dill spears to ferment in old Claussen
jars.... starting to get some maters too:

Me three!
Is the tomato jam the recipe with bacon that someone was circulating
earlier in the year? I made that and it was awesome!

Good luck for a successful year. Eat a brat and some buttered corn on the
cob for me.

Oh, sorry. I do Veggie Fries (see the abc.com story below) ‹ and Dole
Fruit Whip. No brats or corn for me. Fair starts on the 27th.

It is not that recipe. This is a spiced tomato jam ‹ sweet spices and
lemon.

Why bother? The judges, all of whom already know that there will be
again no Barb's Beety Beauty, are in deep depression, some nearly
suicidal. (Most of them are new, by the way; few old ones survived
previous years' disappointment.) The best you can realistically hope
for is a couple of black ribbons yet again.

I got my box of Barb Stuff today! Various jars of raspberry jam (I love
raspberries, and I think I got plain, black raspberry, peach raspberry,
and mango raspberry), a jar of cherry chipotle mop sauce, and a couple
jars of corn relish, which will be our side dish at dinner tonight (I'm
making chiles rellenos again; James loved them last time). I can't wait
to try them. I think I was careful to choose only things we hadn't tried
yet. Fun.

Whee!

That's so passé, Keith. We had it here last year. I haven't heard
what The New Thing is this year.

In bocca al lupo! (that's Italian for break a leg.) I haven't been to a
state fair since I was none, but I do think I'd probably love yours.

Grazie. It's a fun time. For various reasons I usually wind up going
at least four times. I can take a bus over and back and avoid the
driving hassles.
