Default Sandra's Money Saving Meals: Cheeper By The Dozen

Today's show is brought to you by the color yellow and the incredible
egg.

Why was SLop's belt below her waist? A pre-emptive anti-cameltoe
measure, perhaps? Naturally, because SLop is cooking eggs, everything
has to be matchy-matchy, meaning everything is white or yellow.

The fritatta looked awful flat in that glamor shot. I thought they were
sppsd to be more light and fluffy than that.

SLop was at the grocery store at 7:00 AM comparing the prices of eggs?
Yeah, right.

SLop claims that cooking in a pan will season it. For starters, that
wasn't a cast iron skillet. Once again, SLop hears something legit but
totally ****s it up.

Does one normally bake a fritatta in the oven?

The onion chopper was back! Yay!

SLop made that hash and poached eggs before on Semi-Homade. I should do
a compare/contrast...

SLop claims that sliced mushrooms cost the same as unsliced and that
fresh and frozen spinach costs the same. Yeah, and thanks for the
newsflash about brown organic eggs being the most expensive.

Blah blah blah, chopping the veggies yourself is cheaper!

SLop shows us Ye Olde Vinegar-In-Water trick for poaching eggs. I guess
using old tuna cans is too expensive now.

SLop puts the poached eggs on a white cloth towel "to dry". I guess
that's one way to get more fiber in one's diet...

At this time, I noticed there were several egg cartons with flowers in
the compartments on the counter. How dreadful.

BWAH! Smythfield Ham makes better tablescapes than SLop! Oh, Paula,
you're shilling ham, not killing Batman. And lay off on the fake tanner.

SLop claims she's making a brand new round two recipe, but all she does
is slice and fry the leftover sausage bread pudding things she made and
slathering them with a sauce. Her on-line "round two" recipe is
hashbrown burrittos. Ick.

Well, I sure won't anymore. See my thread about the pizza stone if
you want the whole story.

Eggs on a cloth towel? Come ON. How does she keep them from cooling
off? Did she explain why the need to dry "em?

To get the vinegar off.

They were poached eggs, cooked in water with white vinegar added. She
scooped 'em out and set 'em on the towel to get the water off. I'm sure
cooling was an issue, as was fuzz. She also picked up a disgusting cast
off in the water that anybody would have tossed out and added it to the
egg. Bleah.

I've never seen *any* of Sandra Lee's programs. From what I've read on
here, it seems that I haven't missed much.

For a year or so i couldn't figure you what every body seemed to be on
about ... i kept thinking "Sara Lee" and thinking of the cheesecake Lady.

Then i accidentally saw one of the "Sandra Lee" t.v. shows!

Not my cup of tea but apparently she's very popular.

course i don't think much of Rachel Ray, and about the only "Chef" show
i will watch on "broadcast t.v." (no cable) is Lydia Bastianicci (sp?)
at least now that Julia is no longer around. I kept hoping, after Jeff
Smith (The Frugal Gourmet) passed away, they (PBS) might rerun his shows
but so far not. I got one of my regular standards, a chicken fricassee
from his show. Pity about Martha Stewart, i used to like her old show
before her time in jail.

And don't even mention that awful, awful man from the "Hells Kitchen"
t.v. show, he's just plain gruesome.

There used to be a guy on the local news station that did quick 5 minute
cooking spots, he was so very bad i almost wrote a letter to the station
denouncing him and then i found out Mr. Food "Ooh it's so good!" was a
syndicated bit of nonsense that got shown all over the country. All his
recipes use commercial, processed & packaged foods, frozen potatoes,
cans of cream soups, bags of pre grated cheese, instant rice and such,
geared towards quick and easy but im always amazed that people will eat
that stuff. He makes a stuffed breast of chicken with stove top
stuffing and canned cranberry sauce.

His suggestion for "when you don't have time to deep fry your fish" uses
2 cups of crushed potato chips, dip the thawed white fish in butter and
coat with the crushed potato chips. Oh yes, he added chopped parsley
and onion powder to the crushed potato chips. A friend of mine gave me
his cook book as a joke. His "spicy spud chicken" combines instant
potato flakes with dry taco seasoning mix, grated parmesan cheese &
melted butter to dip the chicken pieces in as a 'batter' and then bake
in the oven.

Bon Appetite!

Given his sex scandals, I don't think anybody is going to be repeating
his shows any time soon. Maybe they show them at NAMBLA meetings.

Iirc he was found innocent or at least "not guilty" of the charges or
they were dropped for lack of evidence or something.

But apparently the accusation alone is enough to ruin a person in our
modern world.

He was sued in civil court, he was never charged criminally. He
settled the suit (paid the complainant off) without admitting
guilt.

It never became a legal matter; the victims were all paid off.

Many accusations by many people.

I think most poachers do like them soft - not me, I'm an "over-hard"
type of egg person, and that goes for poaching, too.

Yeah, you want runny yolks in poached eggs. Not that they're gonna stay
that way unless you serve them NOW. Half of her recipes seem to be
intended to serve guests later in the day, which ain't agonna work.

Eh, it was a step above Burger King for most viewers and he knew it.

I once sat across from him in a gourmet joint and he even took his
leftovers home in a styro box. I leaned over and said "Aren't you Mr.
Food?" He nodded, and I said "This is REAL cookin', huh?" No
comment followed.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeff_Smith_(TV_personality)

"His public career came to an end when two of his male assistant chefs
brought charges of sexual harassment against him. Shortly thereafter, in
1998, seven men alleged that he had sexually assaulted them in the
1970s, when they worked for him.[3] Smith denied the accusations. He was
taken off the air shortly afterward. Though he was never charged with a
crime, he settled with the plaintiffs out of court, and never returned
to the airwaves.[4]"

Yeah, that's how it works. My sister-in-law was given a demand by her
boss, to not compete with him. She refused. He called the Law, and she
went to jail. There's a lawsuit, but it cost a lot of money and has
taken years. We'll see how it comes out.
