Default pumpkin (ice cream) soda

I was out mowing, since it actually is NOT raining in the
northeast. Thus, I was rather hot and ... dehydrated. I
figgered I deserved something cool, and even indulgent, to drink.
I recently unearthed some pumpkin ice cream that was in the
freezer, so my mind turned to that. I was too laz..., er,
enervated (yes, that's a nicer word) to go down and find some
spice syrup I have, so I decided to use a tad of blackstrap
molasses. Thus, the formula was about 1 tsp blackstrap molasses,
about 1/4 c milk, about half a cup of melty pumpkin ice cream,
several shakes of pumpkin spice, mixed together. Added sparking
water, stirred gently, topped with more pumpkin ice cream. Not
bad for an off-the-top-of-my-head creation. :-) Isn't it nice
when we can just put things together, knowing they will work?

Sounds interesting, Jean. I love pumpkin ice cream. In fact, I like
pumpkin in almost everyway except savory.

Do you folks get Pumkin Cheese Cake in your areas? I love the stuff
and would love to see a recipe for it. Don't force me to Google it.
You know how lazy I am.

Have you ever tried the savory Afghan rendition? I had it in a
restaurant in Tokyo. I have seen recipes for it but haven't tried
them. It has two sauces: one tomato-based, and one yogurt-based.
It was quite yummy.

Hmmm, looking online, I see most recipes have the pumpkin cooked
with the tomatoes etc., and then topped with the yogurt mixture.
It is called Kadoo Borani or Borani Kadoo. (Note that there is
variation in the spelling, esp. of the "borani" part.)

This is the only memorable savory pumpkin dish I have consumed.

I think I have seen that. I have also eaten homemade. At this
point, I don't recall whether I made it or my sister made it. I
don't think I have it saved in my "tried and true" recipes.

Nope, and I won't. :-) I can barely tolerate the smell of cooking pumpkin
unless is spiced as for pumpkin pie. Truth be told, I'm not very fond of
any squash unless it's prepared in some sweet and spiced manner.

Heh! Even as I was nattering about this savory pumpkin dish, I
was thinking if you don't like it, you don't need anyone trying to
persuade you to try it in any fashion.

Are you still wanting pumpkin cheesecake?

I have 5 in my collection, 1 mine, 1 from usenet long ago, 1 from
kooknet, 1 from cyberrealm and 1 unattributed.

Needless to say mine is my favorite and is probably the best bits of
the others and a little rum in the cook.
