While I was out getting some tchotchke things for the cottage I saw
these Beverage Bonnets. I thought I could pass them up but had to go
back and get them. They are too stinkin' cute. What a great way to
keep the pesky little insects out of your drinks on the patio.

Oh, they're milk jug covers!! These were very common here years ago to keep
the flies out of the milk jug etc. particularly before most homes had
flyscreen etc. Flies are very bad here in summer (hence the "great Aussie
salute" - brushing flies away from your face).

http://www.dhub.org/object/112789,crochet - here you can see a number of
old ones, mostly filet crochet, which are in a collection at the Powerhouse
Museum in Sydney.

There used to be patterns for these in women's magazines. If you crochet,
Koko, you could make your own quite easily and probably more cheaply :-)

Not everyone approves the use of chemicals and if she's in a city
situation, her neighbors will object to her spraying their property.
We have enough complaints about state mandated overhead spraying in
situations directly affect crops.

Hey, one woman's tchochke is another woman's treasure.

We have a neighborhood yard sale next weekend. I wonder if
I can find all
those little round doilies I inherited. Hang a few beads on
'em and voila,
bonnets! (Actually i don't think I'd have the nerve.)

Maybe I should move to the tropics. This time of year, it's the gnats
and flies. Late in the summer, it's the yellowjackets. None of whom
the Orkin man will bother with other than to take your money and spray
your house.

I used to go sometimes just for the music. There's a Latin mass every
Saturday at 2 pm in the cathedral 2 blocks north. I'm getting up
