Yes, sand it down. Start with a coarse 60 grit and work up to a 100 then a 200 or so. You should use a belt sander. You want the finish smooth but you want to strip off the top layer of wood. Seal it with mineral oil. I stopped using wood cutting boards a long time ago except for the one I use exclusively for breads and other dough. Removing it will just make an ugly mess. Paul |
