This was the paper's front page headline.
"I paid $1,000 to sit with a margarita on a sunny beach," said Roger Faulks,
of Seattle".

"After the Splendor decided not to port in Mexico, 500 passengers decided to
disembark Thursday in Long Beach, where the cruise originated. The other
2,700 continued on to San Francisco - after spending five days at sea."
Five days at Sea between Long Beach and SF, and then SF rain!!

Can you imagine five days in the open sea, with overcast skies and
intermittent rain? I'd fee like I was in jail. For us, one cruise was
enough. We recently read that passengers' liquor and wine are confiscated at
the embarkation point on one cruise line.

Thanks for the article, it was interesting reading. I can understand
how someone from San Francisco would not be thrilled about the change in
itinerary.


Itinerary changes happen each year during hurricane season. It is not
hard to change itineraries in the Caribbean, but it is for Bermuda
cruises. You will be going to exciting ports in New England, Halifax and
Saint John, New Brunswick.


I feel the same way about ships, that Edna St. Vincent Millay feels
about trains. If it is a ship, I will enjoy the ride.

I never understood the fascination with cruising. Several years ago, I
took a long ferry ride (not a cruise) from Stockholm to Helsinki and I
hated it. The ferry was huge and it had a pool, casino area,
entertainment, buffet and other restaurants. All I wanted to do was get
off. The twelve hours I spent on that ferry ride was 12 hours too long.
I would much rather just fly to my destination, save the money on the
pretentious cruise, and actually see more of the destination.

For some, the cruise *is* the trip. I tolerate port stops to get my
days at sea.

You should join the Navy. I've seen enough sky and water... I wouldn't go
on a cruise if they paid me.
