also, most of these lunkheads fail to consider that she is in the line of
succession to the presidency (the thought must greatly frighten them),
which accounts for the need for 'state -of-the-art' communications.

but peddling old, debunked nonsense is these schmuck's bread and butter.

How about some factual stuff then? Everyone likes to say president "xxx"
did it. But we don't have a king and the Federal government was designed
to have a check and balance system. The liberals have had control of
Congress for over two years and Pilosi has been speaker for that full
time. They watched as the economy tanked. Then suddenly even though they
were intentionally or actually clueless about what was happening they
were all experts and floated the "banks are too big to fail" buzz and
reached into our pockets to help their friends without condition. Their
only job is to formulate laws and be the keeper of the Treasury and they
blew it. Anyone who voted for the bailout needs to be fired in the next
election.

So then some folks rightly start making noise about just the small part
of the bailout money that was forcefully lifted out of our pockets that
was used for the self centered fat cats to reward themselves. As a
response the Congress passed an unconstitutional bill of attainder.
Since Pilosi is speaker she should have declared the process defective.
But she showed her lack of competence and embarrassed herself, her
constituents and all citizens because of her position by passing an
unconstitutional bill and then forwarding it on to the senate.

free clue: the beginnings of the crisis were well before the 'liberals'
won the congress. one of the chief architects was phil gramm:

The bill that ultimately repealed the Glass-Steagall Act was introduced in
the Senate by Phil Gramm (Republican of Texas) and in the House of
Representatives by Jim Leach (R-Iowa) in 1999. The bills were passed by
Republican majorities *on party lines* by a 54-44 vote in the Senate and by
a 343-86 vote in the House of Representatives.

Treasury Announces TARP Capital Purchase Program Description

Washington- Treasury today announced a voluntary Capital Purchase Program
to encourage U.S. financial institutions to build capital to increase the
flow of financing to U.S. businesses and consumers and to support the U.S.
economy.

Under the program, Treasury will purchase up to $250 billion of senior
preferred shares on standardized terms as described in the program's term
sheet. The program will be available to qualifying U.S. controlled banks,
savings associations, and certain bank and savings and loan holding
companies engaged only in financial activities that elect to participate
before 5:00 pm (EDT) on November 14, 2008. Treasury will determine
eligibility and allocations for interested parties after consultation with
the appropriate federal banking agency.

that would be that notable liberal george bush's treasury department.

apparently opinion is mixed on the bill of attainder business. we'll see
if it passes muster or not. i agree that was a stupid idea, if only in
that it deals with such a small percentage of the bailout funds.

put to lay the blame for the financial meltdown on 'liberals' is pure
nonsense.

Not wrong at all. Congress holds sole authority on all expenditures of
the Federal government. At that time Pilosi had the gavel in her hand as
speaker and the influence and Constitutional authority to say no. She
didn't and the expected happened.

Well even the senate is smart enough to leave it die. There really
aren't many ways to look at the Congress seizing assets as punishment
without due process. Pilosi gets to live with that idiotic decision
forever.

Touchy aren't we? Please explicitly lay out where I said that. I was
strictly commenting on Pilosi's lack of competence.

Community Reinvestment Act had nothing to do with subprime crisis

Posted by: Aaron Pressman on September 29

Fresh off the false and politicized attack on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac,
today weˇ¦re hearing the know-nothings blame the subprime crisis on the
Community Reinvestment Act ˇX a 30-year-old law that was actually weakened
by the Bush administration just as the worst lending wave began. This is
even more ridiculous than blaming Freddie and Fannie.

The Community Reinvestment Act, passed in 1977, requires banks to lend in
the low-income neighborhoods where they take deposits. Just the idea that a
lending crisis created from 2004 to 2007 was caused by a 1977 law is silly.
But itˇ¦s even more ridiculous when you consider that most subprime loans
were made by firms that arenˇ¦t subject to the CRA. University of Michigan
law professor Michael Barr testified back in February before the House
Committee on Financial Services that 50% of subprime loans were made by
mortgage service companies not subject comprehensive federal supervision
and another 30% were made by affiliates of banks or thrifts which are not
subject to routine supervision or examinations.

as far as i know, the speaker of the house can't do a damn thing once the
executive already has the money.
